On Thursday 24th January, Microsoft’s CFO Peter Klein said we should expect more distribution channels for the company’s Surface tablet line. Today, there’s rumours that the Windows RT version of Surface will soon go on sale in Costco stores.
Neowin reports that a list displaying Costco stores which require yearly membership will sell the 32 GB version of the tablet (without the touch cover) for $499. The 32 GB and 64 GB versions of the tablet with the touch cover will be sold for $599 and $699. Costco will also allow users to choose the colour of their Surface tablet touch cover, rather than being limited to the black touch cover.
Now, in total, there are four retail outlets in US that are reported to sell the Surface RT tablet. Microsoft’s retail stores were the first to offer the tablet at its launch on October 26th 2012, followed by Best Buy, then Staples last year and now Costco at an unconfirmed date.
Analysts suggest around a million Surface tablets have been sold and increased distribution channels will hopefully increase penetration further.
