Facial Recognition in Windows 8 confirmed?

Those Italian hackers over at Windows8italia.com have been stripping their M1 copy of Windows 8 to the bone to dig up clues to Microsoft’s next big OS.

Their latest discovery is that the OS has a sensor API for detecting when humans are in front of it, suggesting that at the very least the device will accept camera input, and possible have face recognition like the Kinect has now.

A slide deck  leaked earlier has already suggested Windows 8 will have the feature of allowing users to log on and switch user depending on facial recognition.  It appears this may very well be one of those experimental features that wind its way to an actual product.

I find the parameter naming funny. Whoever wrote it was thinking about Hal 9000.

    “Detecting Human Presence”

    I guess they thought that

    “Detecting Person Presence”

    “Recognizing Detected Face”

was not just as good and fun. And they may be right.
