Google not willing to support Windows 8 or WP8 with apps yet

Speaking to V3, Google’s product management director at Google Apps, Clay Bavor, said it saw a lack of interest in their clients in Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, and would not be making clients for the two operating systems.

"We have no plans to build out Windows apps. We are very careful about where we invest and will go where the users are but they are not on Windows Phone or Windows 8," he said.

"If that changes, we would invest there, of course."

Instead he said Google was committed to continually improving and updating its iOS and Android products.

Google has done the minimum possible to support Windows Phone and Windows 8 so far, only releasing an app to integrate their search services into the OS. Given that Google and Microsoft compete on many services it is not surprising that Google is not supporting Windows in any form, but it does show little regard for their users, who on most occasions are also Windows users.

What Google of course needs to watch out for is that users will switch their services to Microsoft services which are in fact cross platform – with SkyDrive for example supporting Android, iOS and Windows Phone, while Google Drive only supports 2 of the 3.

    F**k Google.

    • Bugbog

Goes well with a song I’ve just heard. “F**k Goog, F**k you very very Muu..uu…uu.uu..uu…uuch!,…..” 😀

  • James Matthews

    Frak you google.

  • GG002

Sorry, but the fact that Google doesn’t want to develop for WP8 and W8 has nothing to do with user base. They just don’t want to support Microsoft. The userbase is clearly there, and monetising would be simple. It’s not like many Android or iOS users will ever use Office (2013) either, yet Microsoft is rumoured to have something soon.

  • Alexander Nevrmind

Who cares??? This is nothing but negative marketing….

  • backlashsid

    They will soon regret this.

    • Bugbog

I prefer the more poetic “They shall Rue the day!…” :)

Google is all onto itself. I mean, just look at the way it implemented IMAP protocol. F!#$ mess.

I’ve stopped using all Google services except Youtube because Google no longer supports Windows. Really dumb on their part. I used to use all of their services, but now I’ve had to seek out alternatives because Google is trying to punish Microsoft and hurting their own users as a result. And this is a company that had apps out for the Palm Pre, so to say they can’t support Windows 8 because there is no interest is insulting to my intelligence.

I moved my docs to SkyDrive, my calendar to Microsoft, search to Bing (and I now get monetary rewards for searching), my maps to Nokia, email to Outlook. Really dumb to push any of your users away. Meanwhile Microsoft is working hard to bring all of it’s services to all platforms (Smartglass, Xbox Music, Live, MS Office, SkyDrive, etc.). All Google is accomplishing is alienating some of it’s users and making themselves look like an evil petty company.

And so they are rightly called: “Scroogle”!

    • arrow2010

I heavily use Gmail & Youtube. I’m already using Bing as my default browser across all machines. But isn’t nearly at Gmail’s level and there is nothing to compete with Youtube, although the website is just fine.

  • Ef Jay

Sad part is Microsoft are unwilling or unable to make their products so awesome that no one would want to use google services in the first place. Do that and no one will care about google on WP or Windows 8.

    • Davey

Considering I don’t care that Google services aren’t on my W8/WP7 devices, I guess they are pretty awesome.

I have been quite surprised that Bing is actually more than up to the job. And Google+??? Really….

  • Craig S.

Correct me if I’m wrong but if this is true why is there an Google Search app in the Windows Store and sitting on my Metro/Modern desktop?

    • Davey

Oh that’s simple… MONEY!!! It’s the only app that provides them with advertising dollars.

  • rick

Bad decision Google, really bad. I’ll leave Gmail and Google reader soon. I’ll use Microsoft products only, because of the ecosystem.
I now own a WP8 device and planning to buy a W8 PC soon in the near future.
If Google doesn’t want to lose a big user base, then they need to make native Gmail, Chrome, G+ etc. apps.
Oh and I almost forgot: don’t be evil! :)

  • just

It doesn’t bother me, Google, you’re not my world.

  • Mark Gibbs

ok it its really because no one is using windows 8 ? they whey would they make apps for the Mac. ? unless I fell and hit my head, the last number I saw was 50 mill copies sold in 4 weeks, that is half of the entire Mac population ? very selfish company.

  • Smith

Not that I need any Google Apps but Over 40 million copies of Window s8 sold already and Millions of Window sPhone devices out there and they are saying there is no interest? What a F… joke! It amaze me how people can make themselve look like a fool with their specially in this level. Just WOW!
Bing is the way to go anyway and I am kind of glad to Google not in any of my devices.

  • Sean Davison

I might be looking at this all wrong, but Google comes off petty as hell in this whole thing.

If it weren’t for PC’s and PC users google wouldn’t even exist. Insane.

    • Bnlknlk Kofi Baiden

      Thats actually true!

    • Zicoz

You’re not looking at it the wrong way at all, Google is doing this out of spite, something that is clearly proven by the fact that they don’t even wanna let Microsoft develop a Youtube-app.

  • Alexander Nevrmind

So Google Search app does not count right?

    • TrickyD

I was going to say – they have already built a win8 app. Idiots!

  • Hypocrite

    *cough* BULLSHT *cough*

“We want our data and services available to everyone, everywhere.” Uh huh.

  • Manolopoulos Apostolos

What??? hehehe. I don’t using google services anymore (ok except youtube). I prefer Bing search.

    • CreepyCreepFace

why would you punish yourself like that?

  • Manolopoulos Apostolos

And is familiar apple and google support each other.
Αnd want to destroy Microsoft. (has made them psychotic.)

  • disqustingtard

    Fuck Google!!

  • Dig The Noise

In other news … “Dell seeing strong demand for Windows 8 in both consumer and business”

  • The__Truth__Hurts

On the Windows 8 side…. Does it matter? Honestly?

The question is: how many would actually download the “apps”? And with the ability to to pin webpages to your homepage, couldn’t you just pin Google, Google+, GoogleDrive, Google Maps, etc…?

And the question is: Can Google make the app better than the web-page? (more of if Microsoft would allow it)

Honestly? The only “app” that Google has for Windows and OS X is their Picasa App, which might be sort on the way dying out.

Dealing with Windows Phone? Is there enough demand on Windows Phones to make google Apps specifically for it? (meaning making it cost effective?)

  • windump

Microsoft should just make Windows 8 free… what’s it cost now $15-30 bucks? How will they make money selling it?
What would the GooG do if it were free?
btw:M$ should rebrand it again to WTFN8

  • Joe_HTH

Who honestly gives a shit? Google+ is a barren wasteland. Gmail can be used online. Maps? You can use that shit online. Youtube? Same deal, especially with flash built in. The rest of their crap isn’t worth having.

Funny thing is, when the time comes when they want to support Windows 8 and WP8, Microsoft should simply say no thanks? It would be hilarious.

  • MarcSilverTriple

At the end they are playing whatever they can to kill the competition, while they are already in a monopoly: it will be just one element to add in the long list of elements that will serve an antitrust trial…

  • grs_dev

Google supports iOS because there is critical mass there, and at one point iOS needed Google to flourish. Today the 2 organizations have a love hate relationship and they’ve figured out that they’re better off loving one another than hating one another as they both share a common superior competitor called Microsoft.

  • grs_dev

Google needs to change their slogan from “Don’t be evil” to “Don’t be stupid”

  • donzebe

    Google free from day one.

  • david

google become no 1 search engine just because Windows exist…

bloody idiots now wants to get out of Windows platform and survive in what? chromebooks?

lol some google employee himself going to bang Eric Emerson Schmidt

  • Gamerz

Who cares? Windows 8 gets dumber and harder to use. If not because of my games, I made Ubuntu my main operating system. Good thing Valve Softwares started the revolution and started to show great support on Linux gaming. In few years, Windows will be left just an option for gamers like me.

Windows Mobile might be able to catch-up to Android and iOS but the licensing will cost a lot and the cost-effectiveness of Windows-based mobile phone will be poor. Wish I was wrong.

  • Orc

As a Swede i find Googles statement a little funny. Its maybe 11 million people that speaks Swedish in the world. They had no problem developing voice recognition for us, but they can’t make apps for w8/wp8 user base of 50 million and growing.

  • xma1e

The reality is W8 and WP8 has all its competitor s running scared. I upgraded my nephew to Windows 8 and he loves how his Android phone syncs with W8 contacts and mail. He’s switched to MS products now where possible. This is what scares Google.

  • kooksta

Another reason to NOT SUPPORT iOS or ANDROID!! MS Get with the damn program!!

I couldn’t care less. Screw Google and all things Google.

  • Octavio Cortes

This is great news! Every time I tested Chrome, I got hit with virii (otherwise known as “viruses”). Google is still good enough to keep it as a second option for searching, YouTube is definitely good, the rest . . . well . . . will not be missed at all!

  • poch@

    i have stopped all google service……… f**k u google…… go to hell.

  • CreepyCreepFace

Microsoft services are cross-platform? Please, don’t make me laugh. If it doesn’t work in linux, it isn’t cross-platform. The only microsoft service that is cross-platform is skype, and the linux version is buggy, unstable, and very outdated.

    • Santhosh

Cross Platform means, They Mentioning that is available for Mobiles,Desktops,Tabs…
