HP Confirms Windows 8 PCs Coming In Q4 2012

13

HP CEO Meg Whitman has confirmed that HP will be releasing Windows 8 based devices later this year. During the financial analysts call yesterday, he told that HP will be releasing Windows 8 based x86 PC’s this holiday season.

“we will be well positioned on Windows 8 x86 by the holidays.”, “we’re rooting for a fantastic Windows 8 product that’s out on time for holiday.”

Also HP is planning for a Windows 8 based tablet focused on businesses that offers no compromise in security as today’s Windows based PC’s does.

Lets hope HP can deliver on its promise.

Cool! Hopefully HP can compete with iPads in form factor and coolness.

I think the best tablet in production is the ASUS Transformer. Not a fan of Android, but the hw is fantastic. I would like to see this running Win8.

But unfortunately, HP didn’t mention ARM tablets. HP beaten to market by Samsung and Lenovo again?

Considering they almost gave up on their PC business, I am not surprised to see them fall behind.  It is sad though, because I actually do like my HP laptop that I got 2.5 years ago and has had no problems.  I got my wife a Dell laptop for this xmas and it has had 3 issues already that require repair and now its internal wireless card is not working.

HP didn’t almost give up their PC business.  The working plan was to spin the PC business off to its own business and still own a portion.  Had this happened, the new business would have still been a Fortune 60 business — that’s HUGE!  Besides, nothing changed during the planning stages.  It was still business as usual at HP.

Sorry, but I don’t get what you are saying.  When you want to either sell or spin off a part of your company, I call that giving up because you don’t want your company involved in it anymore.  Their last leader wanted to do exactly that and follow the IBM model.  Just because Lenovo is a very successful PC Maker doesn’t mean IBM didn’t give up on making PC’s.

Agree. Leo Apotheker was ready to sell off the HP PC division. Thankfully, Leo was jettisoned instead.

    The
HP ARM tablet may be the best Win8 tablet available this year. The tablet is
9-10″ and not as square as the ipad. It has brushed aluminum edges. The
cool factor of the HP is the accessory port. With this one port you will be
able to add a secondary battery (they call it the battery sleeve) and you will
get crazy battery life.  The port can
also be used with the dock.  The dock is
similar to their Slate Dock in concept, but much much much nicer. The dock will
have d-ports, Ethernet ports, hdmi, usb, etc…
There are a slew of other accessories as well including a full spectrum speaker
bar. The one feature it is missing to make it a killer tablet is the inductive
    charging their WebOS tablet has.

Did you find a leak somewhere?  I have not seen any specs for an HP ARM tablet yet.

Why does “by the holidays” inevitably mean winter? Why could it not mean summer?

    • Anonymous

Because in retail terms, there’s only one “holidays.”

I think they should say “for christmas”. Because usually the summer holidays are much longer..which qualifies them much more to be “the one” holidays.
