Insomniac Games Details The Seven Things They’re Doing For The First Time In Sunset Overdrive For Xbox One

Sunset Overdrive game was announced during E3 2013 during Microsoft keynote as a Xbox One exclusive. Sunset Overdrive is an always changing, open-world shooter set in the not-so-distant future. The story is like this, a catastrophic event has left your city overrun by mutants. While the majority perish or transform, you flourish. It turns out your calling isn’t picking up trash or serving food, it’s mutant destruction.

This game represents a number of firsts for Insomniac Games. It is their first open world game, its first title built from the ground up exclusively for Xbox, and it’s more. Xbox Wire has an interview with several folks working on Sunset Overdrive about what’s new in Sunset Overdrive on Xbox One. Read the full interview here.

Sunset Overdrive has given us the chance to go farther than we have before when it comes to traversal and combat, and really, for the first time in a long time, start to change what we believe are the accepted rules when it comes to shooters. That would not have been possible had we not been through a number of different generations and tool sets and production cycles where we discovered what’s truly important to make great games. – Ted Price

Ultimately, as Lead Character Artist Gavin Goulden told me, this new tech is giving Insomniac “that freedom to go crazy.” As you’re firing explosive-laden teddy bears at a homicidal, expletive-spewing inflatable mascot high above a city swarming with energy drink-swilling mutants, know that Insomniac is putting the horsepower under the hood of your Xbox One to good use.
