International Surface orders not delayed says Microsoft

imageAndy wrote us complaining:

I pre-ordered the 64GB Surface minutes after it went on sale in Canada, and I just got an email notification from Microsoft saying my order will not ship until November 2nd. I’m wondering if I’m the only one, or if all 64GB models have been delayed, or if Microsoft is screwing customers outside the US to fulfil US orders. Might be worth looking into.

It turns out he was one of many who received such emails, saying their Surface tablet orders would no longer be delivered on the 26th October.

Now Microsoft has admitted that these emails have been sent in error to non-US buyers, telling Engadget:

Unfortunately, an incorrect email was sent to several of our international customers who pre-ordered Surface from the Microsoft Online Store in the past week. All customers should expect their devices by the original date given when orders were placed. Microsoft is following up with customers to confirm their original shipping date remains unchanged, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.

The hiccup has been a slight mar on what has otherwise been a smooth process. Lets hope it is the only one.

Update: Microsoft has now also sent a follow-up email to those who were mistakenly informed of a delay, saying:

Due to an internal processing issue, we mistakenly sent you an email indicating the shipment date for your order had changed. That email was incorrect. Your expected shipping date has not changed.

Thanks Andy and Mark from Wp7.nlĀ  for the tip.

Today I ordered my 32 GB version without touchcover on the German Microsoft Online Store. They write on the product page that the “product will be delivered within 1 – 2 weeks after ordering”.
I should have pre-ordered it yesterday, because till yesterday there stood: “The product will be sent to you on 26th and arrive you by 30th at the latest”.

I can confirm I just received an email from MS this evening saying the same as above. I had received an email earlier today saying the VGA adaptor (but not the 64GB Surface itself, phew) was going to be delayed until 2 Nov. But now the second email has corrected this asserting that the original delivery date remains.
