iPad users confronted with Windows 8 tablet, seems to like it

21

imageGeekwire took an old Samsung Windows 8 tablet to an Apple store and asked punters there what they thought of the OS.

The reception appears to be much warmer than one would expect, and hopefully this will be reflected in sales when the OS and devices running it debuts at the end of this month.

Thanks Bugbog for the tip.

the average consumer scares me…I’m losing hope in humanity.

It seems like people are actually going to give windows 8 a chance, and when they do, they will fall in love haha, but really, I feel like Windows phone has been ignored by alot of people but this will be huge and help windows phone as well. Go Microsoft!

Hate to say it (typing on a 900) but I agree with the older guy everytime I had a PC it seems to always need work or have viruses. I prey they have issues of malware and viruses fixed or at least under control. There again I would only buy phone not a PC :)

thats because the IT resources you are using are idiots.
I’ve been virus free at work for years.

I’ve never had a virus at work, so yeah, it has to be the IT or the users.

I never browse porn, but i haven’t used windows since vista i think, man what a bad time. I finally bought a mac because of it. I do love what windows is doing for mobile, like i said using Nokia 900. I am sure windows has gotten better though :)

          • rsgx

I browse porn all the time, and still I don’t get viruses, about 4 or 5 years now.

tube8 dot com is all you need . And don’t illegally download music.

I never had problems with malware or viruses. For some years I was even without any antivirus application. I just checked my computer with AVG from time to time.
But yes. I never browse porn.

The most dangerous viruses are the ones you never know of being there. In Apple products you just don’t have any protection after something bad has happened. In the past, MAC and Linux users have been safe only because of small marketshare and absense enterprise users. Starting from Vista security in Windows has been much more advanced than in any other OS, mobile or not. Security experts compare MAC OS and iOS security and Apple’s response to issues to what Microsoft had in Windows 98.

    • Rallicat

Well, with Windows 8 including Anti-Virus software built-in now, hopefully it will be less of an issue.

Price is going to get them. Sure people are loving it now, but wait till they see the price comparison to Apple. I really hope Surface RT comes in at an iPad competitive price. The 3rd party OEMs are not doing themselves any favors with the current price announcements.

I’ve yet to see prices on any RT tablets, have you? All of the Win8 tablets I have seen so far come in under the price of the MacBook Air. You have to remember that the iPad does not run full MacOS but Win8 tabs run full Windows. THAT is what is going to be the big blow to Apple.

I’m sure Microsoft has done similar testing on a larger scale before they went ahead with the new Metro interface. Promising reactions nevertheless.

    • Bugbog

Yep! Their research division conducted extensive testing on users interfacing with tablet devices. That’s where they discovered that the majority use their thumbs to try and navigate from the edges, hence the swipes on either side.

One of the things I liked about the piece was that the people they selected were the ones that really looked at the demo and gave honest opinions. I especially like the opinion of the old man, that even though he liked the Win8 tablet he was a bit too into the Apple ecosystem to give it up. A fair and honest answer.

I do think Windows 8 will find good/high adoption from lay-women, as its uncomplicated and intuitive navigation will appeal to them (even to those that already have iPads too! :) )
