Japan Not Among The Xbox One Launch Countries

Microsoft previously released a list of 21 countries that it would launch the Xbox One for holiday 2013.  Japan was not among them.  Today Microsoft Japan President Yasuyuki confirmed that Japan is a “tier 2” country and the console will launch in early 2014 in the country. Higuchi also said the the Xbox One “won’t be delayed too much from the North American release.” Microsoft has not seen huge success in Japan, Sony’s home territory.  With the PS4 launching holiday 2013 in Japan, it is probably more sensible for Microsoft to launch it in early 2014.  The Xbox One will also launch in early 2014 for many other Asian countries.

So Microsoft’s strategy to improve Xbox sales on countries where Playstation dominates the market almost completely (like Japan, Greece, Portugal and most of the Asia and Eastern Europe) is to launch the Xbox One after the Playstion 4 in those countries.
Very well played! Xbox One will sell like hot cakes there after everyone have a Playstation. Add the fact it is 100€ more expensive and all the problems Xbox got because not explaining the DRM correctly and changing their mind a week after the E3 and we have a clear Winner!
Microsoft got everything that made the XBox 360 successful and trowed it to a trash can on flames.
I got a PS3 and was waiting since the first Durango rumors to switch it for the next XBox and Microsoft chooses my country to be the only one in Western Europe where Xbox One won’t be for sale this year. I’m done being a fanboy. Xbox or Playstation, I will buy the first to be for sale in my country.

So you’re criticizing MS for launching first in the markets where they will sell the most consoles? Really makes sense to leave your stock rotting on shelves in Japan while your customers in UK scream at you for not having any Xbox hardware in stock.

I don’t think Japan is a launch country for PS4 either. The home console market has pretty much died in Japan.

You might be right, I’ll reach out to Sony to double check.
btw, do you have a twitter account?
