Installed fresh and activated with my genuine W8 key. W8.1 is absolutely awesome!

  • Mike

Do I have to reinstall everything once the official version comes out in October? I heard that’s the case for the preview version so I haven’t bothered to upgrade my W8 machine.

    • Qtek8020User

That’s a very valid question and I’m asking the same thing.

      • http://twitter.com/surilamin surilamin

No you will not have to re-install on Oct 18th. But you will get some windows updates that day.

      • Rico Alexander

Mines gets have way through the install and then bombs out saying there was an error. Doesn’t say what the error was though.

    • Asgard

Of course not because this is the official version.

“Hopefully this shut-ups all whiny developers about not getting early access to the build.” Excuse us if we want an official release from MS to test our applications before the general public gets ahold of it and we get bombarded with requests to fix something we didn’t know was broken. Some of us don’t really want leaked versions as MS wouldn’t support us if we ran into issues with it.

    • Bruce

      Leaked doesn’t mean tampered.

      • dcmobi

It also doesn’t mean supported. As an msdn subscriber if I try to get support from MS on an OS I’m not yet supposed to have access to, I’m not likely to get that support. MS makes a lot of money annually from MSDN and TechNet subscribers and early access has always been one of the benefits of that cost.

My authentic Win8 Pro x64 key does not work with the above MICROSOFT.WINDOWS.8.1.RTM.X64.ENGLISH.DVD-WZT and states that my key is not valid for this version of Windows.
    Any thoughts?

    • Hipporama

You need to use the key shown above while installing. It does not activate Windows but will let you install it and once it’s installed you can activate using your genuine key.

      • Ramon

I have to choose the option “upgrade” after inserting the dvd on the drive, right? Will it keep all the programs and files? And one more question: my Windows 8 is portuguese-brazilian. Will it be in english after the upgrade?

        • Hipporama

I did a clean install so can’t comment on the upgrade option. Not sure about the language issue either, sorry.

          • Ramon

            Anyway, thanks a lot. :)

Ramon tens o windows 8 instalado em um pc normal ou em um surface? Eu estou na duvida se devo instalar a partir do zero no meu surface com esta imagem ou se devo esperar pela official. Que achas?

      • JNate

I’m also running Win8 Pro x64. Does the RTM version include the Pro version? Or is RTM a version in itself…

        • Hipporama

RTM stands for Release To Manufacturing. Meaning that this is the final version that will be going out to all OEMs. It is not a version of Windows but it is there to show that this is not some beta version, but is indeed the final version that will be released in October.

          • JNate

            I see… I take that as a Yes. Thanks

  • Yuan Taizong

I really hope developers will get it as soon as possible, because the more apps get build before launch, the more people’ll want it.

  • kooki

Is it possible to install it on Surface Pro? Anyone has tried? If possible how can I activate it?

  • FateStayNight

    All Hail Wzor!!! Thanks!

  • Chints

To install pro version, you need to download either of these 2 (depending on whether you want x86 or x64)

Make a usb to install off (else you got to mess about editing ISO files to do this)

Create a file called ei.cfg containing the following information

Save this file and place in Sources folder, you can then install pro version and activate using your legit 8 key
