Speech Recognition and Speech process are becoming an integral part of evolving NUI. Its atleast evident from the case of Microsoft Kinect. Game Developers and gamers around the world are now enjoying the voice recognition capabilities provided by Kinect. Recently Microsoft showed at E3, its upcoming version of Xbox Dashboard which fully supports Human Voice for controlling the console. Microsoft’s Bing also provides voice search to its users through which they can search the web. At an press event yesterday, Google shared some interesting stats on voice search queries. Mobile speech inputs at Google have grown by a factor of six and two years of non stop speech comes into Google’s mobile search every day. Microsoft shared much more impressive and interesting numbers on voice queries. Here are they,
Number of voice queries per day on Tellme platform:
· 11 billion+ speech requests each year on the Microsoft Tellme speech platform.
o This translates to approximately 348 speech transactions in Microsoft Tellme’s speech cloud every second.
o This translates to over 30 million voice queries (speech transactions) in Microsoft Tellme’s speech cloud every day.
Number of voice queries per year on mobile using Bing:
· We’re seeing that 20-25% of queries on Windows Phone are using voice.
Microsoft’s TellMe platform, the brain behind all its speech products is also open to other businesses as well. Many companies are using TellMe’s IVR for their customer support. I find the last stat on Windows Phones more interesting, 20-25% of search queries are done using voice. That’s pretty cool. This indicates where our consumers are moving towards, Its NUI…NUI..NUI..
