Microsoft Brings Back Mac Vs PC Discussion With The New Surface Pro 3 Ads Against MacBook Air

16

When Microsoft announced Surface Pro 3 few months back, they started to marketing it as ‘The tablet that can replace your laptop’. Even during the launch event, Microsoft compared Surface Pro 3 against MacBook Air. Surface Pro 3’s official webpage and Microsoft Store listing also compares MacBook against Surface Pro 3. Following them, Microsoft has now released three new videos comparing Surface Pro 3 with MacBook Air. Watch them below,

Tablet or laptop? With the Surface Pro3, you get the best of both. The Surface Pro 3 has the power to run full Adobe Photoshop, Office and Windows. But unlike the Mac Book Air, it has a touchscreen, a pen and converts to a tablet. Don’t try that with the Mac.

You can order Surface Pro 3 from Microsoft Store from the links below.

So the supposely cool dud vs the nerdy fat guy turns arrond! I have nothing against either, but this is ironical! Whats also ironical is Apple joining forces with IBM, the original atact that maid them grow!

Ms needs to stop focus on Apple, I don’t give a damn about anything apple, are they so dumb to think apple fans are gonna switch ? do they really think there are a lot of people thinking Mac vs PC, they are just showing how paranoid they are about anyone else having success, how much more money are they going to burn trying to be an OEM?
do they ever consider that they are turning the real OEMs into competitors? what’s next Livebook social network , Livetweets, MSOnetube?

      You’re all over the place.
#1 Do you realize that OEMs have been dying faster than dinosaurs?
#2 Do you understand the difference between OEMs and competing services?

Livebook? I am presuming you’re referencing facebook. Microsoft owns a chunk of facebook and has a bunch of exclusive deals with them.

Livetweets? I am guessing you’re referring to twitter? Microsoft has a partnership with Twitter also.

MSOneTube? You’re clearly referring to YouTube there which is a google service and has made it clear they do not intend to cooperate with Microsoft.
Point here, none of the ones you listed are OEMs.
OEMs like Dell and HP are not interested in pursuing the home user/consumer space where Apple does most of its damage against the PC. They’re content focusing on the large corporate deals where Apple doesn’t play.
I see Microsoft doing their OEMs a favor really. They are not going after the low end. They are going after the higher end of the market. The OEMs are not competing with the Surface Pro. They cannot come near it even. They are barely competing with Google and all Google has is their shitty chromebook.

what a dumb/trolly uninformed fanboy response.the surface is not a high end device, it’s a mid-range device. it’s overpriced, it’s lost Microsoft a mountain of cash. The top OEMs like Samsung and Sony are indeed shifting focus to competitive products. the kickstand design is not good for actual lap use. the metro touch interface is terrible and the app store world of suck, Microsoft needs to focus on repairing the damage to the Windows brand and stop screwing around worrying about what everyone else in tech is doing. the number of people actually trying to decide between Mac book and Surface is so tiny they might as well stick to the stupid “honestly , I wanna see you be brave” crap or the snap snap, hip,hop happening break dancers. or better yet create better OS that people want and they won’t need all the stupid ads at all!

You’re clearly an expert so good luck with your rants… I have better things to do :)

          Cheers.

The biggest difference between the two right now is battery life. 12 hours on the MacBook Air vs 7 hours on the Surface Pro 3. That said, I wonder how many folks need 7 plus hours of battery life? The majority of users I interact with already have become accustom to charging their phone every night/other night. Seems a notebook/Surface would easily fall into that habit.

I guess if you travelled to and from work and used your tablet/laptop for entertainment, and used your laptop/tablet for entertainment in lunch breaks also then you could argue for a need of more than 7 hours. 8-9 hours then would be necessary.

MacBook Air 11″ claims battery life of 9 hour, Surface Pro 3 also has 9 hour battery life.

      • icanhazinternet

I should have clarified, MBA 13″ (featured in the ads above) has 12 hrs. The SP3 has 7 when using in laptop mode. I’m not making a case for either, simply pointing out what seems to be the biggest difference to me. You *can* get 9 hrs out of a SP3, but only in tablet mode with the i3 (ugh, i3).

13″ MBA claims 13 hour life, with actual 12hr. SP3 claims 9 hour battery life, with actual 7.6 hour. 11″ MBA claims 9 hour battery life, the actual will be around 8 hour with this math. I can’t see big difference here, considering SP3 with keyboard is 1.1KG in weight with is similar to 11″MBA but has larger screen and richer features. You should not compare its battery life to a 1.35KG product.

They really should focus on it’s strengths and not so much the competition.

  • koenshaku

The head to head ad was entertaining the other too lack creativity and they are a little short sighted.

  • LexicoRed

The ads are good. It does illustrate how much the world has changed where once the dominate was Microsoft with Apple challanging them, now Apple is coincidered the leader even with their 5% market share.

Like I said the ads are good but they won’t help the Surface sales much.

If the Surface pro 3 were a Lenovo Yoga like device I would be compelled to agree there’s no question which is better. I personally do not like the kickstand or the hassle of a removable flappy keyboard though. I want a laptop to feel and function as a laptop primarily.
