Microsoft Courier UI Vision May Soon Become Real By This New Cross-Group Inking Team From Windows, Office And Windows

Microsoft has recently formed a cross-group Inking team between Office, Surface, and Windows groups. This team is now exploring a possibility of creating a unified Inking experience that will offer a great experience for Microsoft eco-system users. When you read the whole presentation embedded below, you will come to know that there is a possibility that Microsoft’s Courier UI vision may become true at least. You can select an area in a website, drag and drop it to Office apps, edit them and all these using your inking pen.

In late 2013 and early 2014 Office, Surface, and Windows formed a Cross-Group Inking team to explore One Microsoft needs for a unified approach to inking. In this session Tucker Hatfield presents details about the Cross-Group effort and their conclusions of what is needed for first-class inking and Will Vong shows visionary ways in which these needs might be met with inking features.

Possibly filmed by the worst filmteam in history.

Huh? Was it to difficult to follow?. I had no problems.
Actually very interesting stuff. And making me very curious about what we will be going to see the 20th.

      • Bugbog

Multi-angle filming (two cams really) but hardly any focus on the board, so when the speaker is referencing diagrams on the display we don’t see anything!

        • Rico Alexander

If you don’t watch it full screen you should see the slides on the right screen.

          • Bugbog

Hmm. I had it wide but not full screen. Anyways, it was interesting, but not all that interesting. and there was no actual [physical] demo of inking.

The Courier should become the Surface mini. In other words, they should still release the Courier.. I still get excited about it.

    • Bugbog

I hereby deem the the new eight-incher the Surface Courier!

      • jaylyric

        Yes!!

      • Tips_y

LOL I don’t know whether to laugh or cry about your comment. And jaylyric enthusiastically saying “Yes!!” makes it all surreal.

        • Bugbog

Well in another couple of days it’ll get settled.

        • Bugbog

And there’s nothing wrong with being optimistic, is there? :)

have been using ink since 2001, and this is the best news I hear for a long time! Come on MS, prove Steve Jobs was wrong!

  • TheCyberKnight

    Don’t get too excited.

With the current Microsoft trend to bastardize the Modern experience and make it closer to the traditional Win32 (desktop) with every release, chances are that nothing very different from the early Windows Tablet PC will ever come from this.

There is a fantastic opportunity to see a dramatic change in this area next Tuesday with the Surface Mini. I still have a very tiny glimpse of hope that the device will actually ship with a fantastic “Courier” inspired note taking app that would really make it different from the other small tablets offering.

Otherwise, the Surface Mini will only be another me-to device, albeit 2 years too late.
    Few days to wait…
