Microsoft Officially Announces Renaming SkyDrive To OneDrive, OneDrive For Everything In Your Life

11

Microsoft today officially confirmed the renaming of SkyDrive brand to OneDrive.

Why OneDrive? We know that increasingly you will have many devices in your life, but you really want only one place for your most important stuff. One place for all of your photos and videos. One place for all of your documents. One place that is seamlessly connected across all the devices you use. You want OneDrive for everything in your life.

Of course, changing the name of a product as loved as SkyDrive wasn’t easy. We believe the new OneDrive name conveys the value we can deliver for you and best represents our vision for the future. We are excited about what is to come, and can’t wait to share more.

The users of SkyDrive or SkyDrive Pro won’t see any interruption on the services, but the name of the services will move to OneDrive and OneDrive for Business respectively as the new name is rolled out across the portfolio.

I will still call it sky drive. One drive sounds boring. I wonder if they’ll have a promo giving users more GB for a limited time.

Why not? OneDrive is good enough to replace SkyDrive name. If it needed – they choose right name. (And my opinion – MS too much paying attention to naming trolls – Metro AG, BSkyB and other shit)

Even tought I liked SkyDrive a lot and still don’t know why court was so stupid and blind to rule Microsoft change it (since it was not Sky Drive but SkyDrive) but OneDrive sound good too. After all it is same amazing Cloud service from Microsoft which I use everyday and it save me lots of time and effort at work or home. Go OneDrive!

It’s a good name. I always did like the “Onecare” name. OneDrive isn’t bad.

I don’t give a donkey’s ass about the name, as long as it is free :D

This is disappointing. I loved the name “SkyDrive.” OneDrive just sounds…basic. And forced. And lame. I take it we have the Xbox marketing team to thank for this.

SkyDrive was good but I actually like OneDrive better.

It’s easier for my non-western tongue to pronounce since it rolls off my tongue better – you only need to open your mouth one way to pronounce both words “one” and “drive”, whereas with “sky” and “drive” you have to change your mouth opening :-)

But more importantly, it’s more in-line with Microsofts’s push to “One” OS, so it makes the name OneDrive more coherent with the rest of Microsoft.
