Microsoft posts Surface Overview video, encourages us to “click in and do more”

28

imageMicrosoft posted the above video of their new Surface tablet, showing more usage scenarios, especially of the camera and touch cover, and emphasizes features that set is apart from the iPad, including support for USB drives and microSD cards.

The Surface’s slogan “click in and do more” is also clearly targeting the iPad, and I am sure Microsoft hopes the increased functionality of the tablet will justify its iPad-equivalent price.

It is interesting how most of the usage shown on these ads is out side the home and yet they say….

Why no 3G/4G models: “We made what we feel is World Class WiFi connectivity. For 3G/4G we looked at several elements when deciding on what features to include. We knew that the primary use was going to be in the home, we looked at tablet sales data 2/3 WiFi, 1/3 Mobile Broadband. Of the 1/3 sold, 1/2 were activated. Phone hotspot / tethering use was also a consideration.

It isn’t exactly a big loss I’m sure you will be able to a buy a dongle to plug in by USB to use 3G/4G

OMG! That USB makes the possibilities ENDLESS!

Only if that dongle is supported on the ARM chip, right? And if your ISP locks down its 3G to only its specifically branded dongles with an ugly dialer. Then you’re out of luck (as I am). We all have to hope that our phones can hotspot and not die from battery life while doing so.

$599 and you have to still buy a dongle !! Gimme a break, I’m a fan, but the price point is ludicrous.

      You are right!
I would probably use 3G/4G a lot since Tethering loves the taste of my Lumia’s battery.
“Don’t need 3G in Surface” is basically the new “Don’t need dual-core in Windows Phones”. It’s not absolutely necessary but sometimes it would be nice to have it.
Anyway, since I started college this year it would be nice to get a new pc, so I’ll wait for the Surface Pro instead of getting already the RT version.

Nice to have, but not to the extent of paying $100 extra, and also for an additional monthly contract!

Great, they also needed an ad/video like this. The dancing ad was great, but naturally only works as an attention catcher, while this is more informative.. Now if only I’d hear about availability in Finland..
