Microsoft Releases Re-imagined Bing Video Search Experience

Bing Videos Update

Microsoft today released a re-designed Bing Video search experience. The all new design allows you to quickly browse, discover and view videos from YouTube, Hulu and Vimeo, Dailymotion, Vevo, MTV, CBS, MSN and more. It has a streamlined navigation, instant preview and more.

Pop-out Hover Preview: Rather than making you travel to a site to see if a video is the one you’re looking for, we updated our preview mode so now you can simply roll the cursor over the video thumbnail to see a short preview. We also expanded the information displayed about a video to speed up your search and now show favicons from the top sites, view counts, descriptions, and bold your search terms in the titles. Additionally, we’ve added a control for our previews so you can adjust the volume level of the preview playback.

Improved Filters: Another subtle but powerful feature are the filter improvements. The resolution filter now takes into account common video sizes such as 720 and 1080. The source filters are also more specific to the segment for which you are searching. You can also sort by date to ensure you’re getting the freshest (or oldest) videos available.

Video Overlay and Improved Navigation: Once you find a video that you want to watch we present a video overlay that lets you easily browse to the next video without having to leave the collection. Moving to another video is simple with the easy-to-click carousel at the bottom of the light box. If you haven’t found what you’re looking for we’ve include a list of related searches in the right rail so you can easily narrow down your search. You can also see the source and the number of views directly under the videos so at a glance you know which videos are most popular.

Bing is very competitive, I recently took the Bing Vs. Google rest again and Bing flat-out won, in the past I went Google 4/5 or 3/5 but this time it was Bing 5/5 really amazing the way Bing progressed over time, this is why I love Microsoft, give any of their products some time and you’ll end up with something amazing.

Bring the hole bing features to europe too.

Amen. I know this statement gets old but we have been waiting way too long now. I actually have been using the USA version for quite a while now and even that “nonsupported” version is 1000x better than the crappy “beta” version that EU gets by default. I really want to advice my acquaintances to use Bing but seeing that they will be presented with this beta version there is no point…. So I advice them Google or even DuckDuckGO lol.

How about letting me point to a video by URL or upload a Vine or something to use as an input for searching for video content?

I thought this was there already, I am using video search since day 1. Am I missing something?

This is the first big flop I’ve seen on Bing. It is a major step backwards, you can’t right click and open a video in a new window or tab, opens new windows when you do not want it to, and the whole zooming thing just means you miss the video you are trying to open.

Clearly, somebody did not do their testing as this is significantly less user friendly than it was a few weeks ago.
I have no idea what they were thinking.
