Microsoft Renames Xbox Live Marketplace To Xbox Games Store

Xbox_Games_StoreMicrosoft has finally renamed their Xbox Live Marketplace to Xbox Games Store. Microsoft begun aligning their Xbox services strategy few months back and since then they are making changes in branding, etc,. The newly changed Xbox Games Store brand is in line with the Xbox Music Store and Xbox Video Store.

Rather than the old way downloading everything from Xbox Live Marketplace, the new Xbox Games Store will allow gamers to browse all titles, and either purchase or download them to their console. For videos, music, etc, you need to download from respective store.

I was honestly expecting this, as much as I loved the brand Xbox LIVE Marketplace, I saw a trend in all major companies copying Apple’s ”App Store”, Google renamed the Android Market to the Google Play Store, Microsoft earlier renamed the Windows Phone Marketplace to the Windows Phone Store, and the Windows Store is the successor to the Windows Marketplace, as the app for Games for Windows 8 is called the Xbox LIVE Games app, it would only be logical to rename it the Xbox Games Store, I speculated this since the release of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, respectively.

Zune Marketplace and Zune Video Marketplace + Xbox Video Markeplace were renamed the Xbox Music Store and the Xbox Video Store, respectively.

There’s a trend. I honestly like ”Marketplace” more than ”Store”, Store sounds more as if you’re only there to buy things, a Marketplace can be so much more.
