Microsoft Shows Off Advanced Kinect Capabilities, Accurate Hand Gesture Recognition On The Way

8

At sixth annual TechForum event, Microsoft demoed some of the advanced Kinect capabilities like accurate hand gesture recognition, etc,. Microsoft Kinect is already capable of detecting body movements and now Microsoft has improved them to make it recognize hand gestures such as opening and closing the palm. You can now use Windows 8 fully controlled by Kinect and it looks cool.

Check out the video above. I guess these features will be part of  Kinect 2.0 which will be released along with Xbox vNext.

Interesting kind of reminded me of the 3D computer from iron man how he flipped maps around and simulations not quite there yet, but doesn’t seem too far off now. ^^

Totally…Iron Man 1.0…when these research engineers get to 2.0 the product will work so much smoother and will have much more use cases. Microsoft Research is just brilliance in the making.

I guess you guys haven’t heard of Leap Motion. Google it and you’ll see something far more advanced. I’m frankly quite surprised if this is all that Microsoft has managed to improve in Kinect. Leap is lightyears ahead.

That is only from a few feet away. Even they said that they cannot do whole rooms as good as Microsoft can. What I would like to see if Microsoft either buying Leap so that they could be part of a bigger company and have a bigger reach in the technical business or even do a collaboration with them.

      Fuck Leap.
