Microsoft Updates SkyDrive With New Photo Timeline Feature And 2x Faster Uploads

Microsoft SkyDrive Photo Timeline

Microsoft today announced a new feature for SkyDrive called Photo Timeline. In the timeline view you can scroll down to navigate through all the images. They’re organized into groups by event and time. Photos will appear as two different groups in the timeline based on the time in which they were shot.

The new view is convenient when you want to quickly get to a photo from June and you only have access to a web browser. Maybe the reason you only have access to a web browser is because your laptop was accidentally destroyed by a random camping accident.

They have also improved the performance  for uploading photos via the SkyDrive desktop app.

In the past few months we’ve also been hard at work addressing the feedback we’ve received about how long it sometimes takes to upload via the SkyDrive desktop app. To improve upload times, we worked on changes to both the app and  the server code. The end result is that in our internal tests, we’ve seen a 2-3x improvement in upload times for photos.

Nice! I also hope they will add a better webplayer to the movies you upload. Currently the buffering of the video’s takes too damn long but i wanna keep the high-res version on skydrive too

I’d say it varies for me; from near instantaneous, to 5secs, and the longest (in one instance, so far) 14secs!

Well i’m using the original filesize which makes 1 minute clips about 30mb. Which is not bad on fiber, but on wifi or limited connectivity it really blows
