A great news for developers got buried inside the Windows 8.1 release news yesterday. Microsoft has released the final releases of Visual Studio 2013, .NET 4.5.1, and Team Foundation Server 2013. All the three are now available for download. Somasegar,  corporate vice president of the Developer Division at Microsoft blogged about the new VS 2013 as below,

Visual Studio 2013 is the best tool for developers and teams to build and deliver modern, connected applications on all of Microsoft’s platforms.  From Windows Azure and SQL Server to Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8, Visual Studio 2013 supports the breadth of Microsoft’s developer platforms.

As part of the Cloud OS vision, Visual Studio 2013 enables developers to build modern business applications that take advantage of the cloud and target a variety of devices and end-user experiences, all delivered within today’s rapid and dynamic application lifecycles.

There are great new features and capabilities in Visual Studio 2013 for every developer, including innovative editor enhancements such as Peek and CodeLens, diagnostics tools for UI responsiveness and energy consumption, major updates for ASP.NET web development, expanded ALM capabilities with Git support and agile portfolio management, and much, much more.

“From Windows Azure and SQL Server to Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8, Visual Studio 2013 supports the breadth of Microsoft’s developer platforms.” Where is Visual Studio 2013 for Windows Phone? I only see 2012 for Windows phone

Have you checked File > New to see if there is a Windows Phone option in there along with all the rest of the other development options?

No. I cannot find the 2013 express edition for windows phone.

The Express Edition is probably not available just yet and should follow shortly after the commercial versions (let’s be reasonable and not expect free stuff to be prioritized ahead of paid products). But my question is that on the commercial versions which you can try out for a good amount of time while you await the express version, when you click on File > New, to start a new project it should list Windows Phone in there along with other kinds of development projects.

Even you can new a wp project in vs 2013 shell, it may still use vs 2012 wp. I don’t have the commercial version. Just wondering. I guess it is because wp 8.1 is still unfinished and vs 2013 for wp should comes with wp8.1 emulators

I just downloaded them also. Unfortunately did not see a 2013 version for Windows Phone.
