Microsoft Xbox 360 Maintains Top Console Spot For 25th Straight Month In US

Microsoft Xbox 360 maintained the leadership rank in the US console market for 25 consecutive months. Xbox 360 sold 281,000 units in January which is impressive for a console which is 7 year old.

Here are the highlights,

  • Holding 44 percent share of current-generation console sales, Xbox 360 sold 281,000 units in January, maintaining the number-one console spot in the U.S. (Source: NPD Group, January 2013)
  • Total retail spend on the Xbox 360 platform in January (hardware, software and accessories) reached $338 million, the most for any console in the U.S. (Source: NPD Group, January 2013)
  • During the month of January, Xbox 360 held five of the top 10 console game titles including: “Far Cry 3,” “NBA 2K13” “Call of Duty: Black Ops II” “Madden NFL13” and “Halo 4.” (Source: NPD Group, January 2013)

Microsoft is expected to reveal Xbox vNext later this year with sales starting this holiday season.

    Well sense the Wii U does not look like it will be dominating the console market for the first couple years this time around. Seems that MS will be holding on to a even larger portion of the console market. With the kinnect being able to detect eye and finger movements it seems that may be able to even tap into the non-gaming crowds the Wii was famous for also.

      I don’t know – worldwide they’re still stuck in 3rd place (a very close 3rd place but still 3rd) and this time it doesn’t look like Sony will give them a year head start.

      Plus this time we may see pressure from some cheap boxes like Ouya and maybe even Apple TV. They won’t win over the hard core gamers but they may eat at the sales of big consoles to less serious gamers/media box buyers.
