Microsoft: Xbox One Won’t Support 3D Blu-ray Playback At Launch

Microsoft has added Blu-ray disc support in Xbox One, but that doesn’t mean that Microsoft will also support 3D Blu-ray playback. Microsoft has confirmed to CNET that Xbox One won’t support 3D Blu-ray playback at launch.

When I first read this news, I was like, “Does it really matter?”. First of all, there are very few 3D Blu-ray content available right now and it can be played only on a appropriate 3D TV setup. However, people with lots of 3D Blu-ray content would be disappointed at this news. According to Sony,  the PS4 system supports 3D gameplay at launch in North America on day one, though no launch titles are currently 3D compatible.

I am slightly dissapointed by this news, still getting the Xbox One though. I have a 3D-TV as well as 3D BluRay, and didn’t want to fall back to a BluRay Player for this. After all the XBox One is advertised as an All-In-One Entertainment System.
Hope they will add this with a patch soon.

update is in the works for 3d blu ray for xbox one. better than never. at least they don’t have to update to play blu ray movies unlike sony.

So it does play regular blu ray at launch. I’m confused.

Yes it does. 3D Bluray is a different format

I only have to say that Xbox One is going to be a huge failure around the world. I don’t say US because anyway they’re getting all the features. I mean the world cause the rest, I mean, we, are not getting all the features, including the voice commands, the Xbox Music and Video services, games in the cloud, apps, etc. I mean, seriously, is someone going to spend more than 500 $us for only games? If you don’t know, we receive things more expensive, also, we are poorer. And as a matter of the fact, the cloud service will not work properly, no Blu-ray 3D playblack, no 1080p resolution, and it’s going to be more expensive than PS4? Well people, I’m a huge Microsoft fan, I’m one of those countable people with Windows Phone, but seriously… Xbox one will be a great failure. They should have followed Xbox 360 reasons of success: that was a friendly console and that’s why it surfaced the PS3. Admit it guys, Xbox One is going to fail, if not in America, but in the world it will, specially Latin America, where we can’t give us such toys for no service or lack of operability.

It can do everything the PS4 does. It will play games, you’ll be able to watch TV through it, you’ll be able to use Kinect, Skype, download and use apps. A few features like voice control wont be available at launch but it’s still more than the PS4 offers. Granted the price is more but the PS3 cost more at launch. It’ll be fine. I’m getting one.

I don’t fine tour argument valid nowadays because the

The cloud is optional, there is 1080p resolution and 3d bluray is coming. Guess what the PS3 never had these features at launch but they do now.

i use a ps3 purely fir 3D content. Hopefully by time i upgrade the Xbox will support it.
its stupid that they don’t from the start since it’s not a new format.

Think of it this way – Sony has promised that you may be able to use Blu-Ray with the PS4. And they don’t exactly have a good track record with their promises.
