Nice, but, if the price isn’t right this isn’t going to displace the Series 7 Slate as the best of the bunch right now.

The Slate is nice, but when I was looking to make an impulse tablet purchase last year, immediately following Build and the DP release, the Slate was waaay too expensive. Triple the cost of an Acer W500!

I still think that windows RT is going to be largely a phone grade operating system that will merge with Windows Phone.  Most will prefer a real windows 8 tablet that can run everything that users especially now need and use.

This is not a WinRT tablet.

You’re completely speculating when MS has announced everything already. Windows 8 RT will be identical to Windows 8, just that x86 applications won’t run on them. But RT apps (Metro apps) will run on both Windows 8 and RT

What I understood from the articles that I read was that existing x86 programs will need to be “rewritten” for RT and until that happens and until you pay for the new programs, the RT will only run the (few) apps that are made or rewritten for RT, books, magazines, news, movies, music.  But the heavy duty business apps are not going to flock to be rewritten for RT if a good slim Win8 tablets are available.  I think most, like myself will choose them for seamless transition.

Only RT apps will run on Windows RT. Even if good slim Win8 tablets are available, to be truly touch centric you’ll need to write them as Metro apps. Non metro apps will only run from desktop, and desktop is not touch designed. Also, even though you can theoretically buy desktop apps from the marketplace, the majority of marketplace apps will be metro. Metro will be the standard in a few year’s time
