Great to see backward compatibility with Surface 2/Pro 2. Curious if a accelerometer was built into prior Type Covers.

    • chrgeorgeson

Yup the Accelerometer is there to be able to tell what angle the keyboard is at, that way it turns off or on.

Are you sure about that? I think it determines by some sort of metallic-magnetic measurements. Why do I think this? I happen to have a metallic surface here at home, that, when type cover is folded back and I lay my tablet down screen facing up, turns the tablet off. It’s always really annoying when it happens.

        • Bugbog

That’s the “closing” feature that switches your device off when you cover the screen. |(it can’t differentiate between the two)

          • GG002

Oh, yes.. I misread.. I was thinking turning off the screen.. But accelerometer I’m still not so sure about, since the keyboard keeps working no matter at which angle it is. I think it’s a bendable resistor or similar that detects how far back the keyboard is being bent, as those are very cheap and durable.

Sad not to see Touch Cover for Surface Pro 3. I’m so use to it. Recently I tried Type Cover and I really don’t like… Please Bring back the Touch Cover to Surface Pro 3 :(

    • Sai Das

The type cover is more responsive…more like a normal keyboard.

      • popyo

Actually I thought same until I tried recently a type cover. I’m using a touch cover for very long already Touch Cover 1 then now touch cover 2. I noticed that I type faster and with less error on touch than type cover now. The reason is that I’m typing on it like typing on mechanical one and let my fingers bounce on the touch keys. So actually I’m not touching the keys but really typing on it. When you do that at the beginning for 1,2 days you will type a lot of small mistake here & there but after it’s amazing how you feel when you really use to type on it. The most important is to stop think is a touch cover and just type on it like you are typing on a mechanical keyboard… I love my touch cover and I will never go back at any cost to type cover…

Preference is certainly individual, however, the majority of people don’t agree with you (as reflected in Touch sales) and is why MS only offers Type.

Type Cover = heavy. Touch Cover = slim & light

    • hysonmb

The type cover vs touch cover weight difference is negligible in reality.

      • CyberAngel

        Then it’s psychological…too THICK

Microsoft should make this type cover more compatible with other devices, they could reward users for having a Windows Phone by making it compatible with Windows Phone too. :-D
