New Windows 8 Logo Confirmed By Microsoft, Its Metro Style

The leaks were true. Microsoft has today confirmed the new Windows 8 logo on its blog post. The new logo is trendy, flat and more importantly inline with Metro design principles. Also the logo color will change according to your personalization settings. Microsoft cited the following reasons for the new logo,

1. We wanted the new logo to be both modern and classic by echoing the International Typographic Style (or Swiss design) that has been a great influence on our Metro style design philosophy. Using bold flat colors and clean lines and shapes, the new logo has the characteristics of way-finding design systems seen in airports and subways.

2. It was important that the new logo carries our Metro principle of being “Authentically Digital”. By that, we mean it does not try to emulate faux-industrial design characteristics such as materiality (glass, wood, plastic, etc.). It has motion – aligning with the fast and fluid style you’ll find throughout Windows 8.

3. Our final goal was for the new logo to be humble, yet confident. Welcoming you in with a slight tilt in perspective and when you change your color, the logo changes to reflect you. It is a “Personal” Computer after all.

It looks like it was made by Nokia.

I disagree. Nokia has better designs. The “amazing everyday” colors that are used in the Lumia ads and videos are superb..

well he is right about something, if its “windows” why it was always a flag? so this change makes a Little sense, lets just wait to see it on wind8ws to see how it looks, i guess now we can expect it to be on Consumer Preview.

    I love it!

I think more colours would have been better, tweaked version:

Yup! This logo works better. I think they should have kept some color in the logo..

Bad, very bad. I like Metro UI, but this logo is a fail

    I’m cool with it.

Hmmm… I wonder what they’re insinuating here, or who does that…

    Love it, Nice

I like it.  Looks like a metro tile in mid-animation, just after you tap it.  I assume they will end TV commercials in similar fashion to WP7, with metro animation of the logo flipping into place.

it wont be my first choice but its ok, it works

I like it. Simple and to the point.

so since windows is like fail – win – fail – win this must be the start of the fail since w7 was a win…

I hope it will break the MS/Windows chain finally but the logo is a disappointment at best..

At first you may not like it like. I didn’t like it. But if more you look at it and more yousee it it grows on you and you will nt see it that bad.

It’s new style, metro, simple, clear so maybe at first little not familiar to eyes and therefore not like it but I think people will like it slowly.

Still I think Microsoft should consider more designs and options and perhaps find better designs because I believe they can do better.

Metro s beautiful and stylish and simple but also very tricky. If you don’t do it right it looks bad and messed up but if you do it right then its beautiful and nothing can beat it.

Hope they improve their designs in metro style and also this maybe come with more metro stylish logo or tweak this and make it look better.

But the more you look at it, less you hate it. :)

The more I look at it the more it looks like my 1960s livingroom window! I wish there was some more art put into the design of the logo. Metro is beautiful but I think it’s not being implemented correctly on some WP7 apps. I hope Windows8 will not be the Windows Vista to my Windows7 (I LOVE WINDOWS7!!!!)

Did the designer pay MS to come up with this shit ?

Too simple and very inelegant – Law of Pragnanz but EWW, seriously, this is just plain tasteless. The “old” logo even with flat, Metro RGBY colors is a whole lot better. And more identifiable to everyone.

    I LOVE IT !!!
