Last year, Microsoft started delivering the Kinect for Windows v2 Developer Preview kits to thousands of participants. The Developer Preview included a pre-release Kinect for Windows v2 sensor, access to the new generation Kinect for Windows software development kit (SDK), as well as ongoing updates and access to private program forums. Microsoft also announced that participants will also receive a Kinect for Windows v2 sensor when they become available next summer (northern hemisphere).
Today, Microsoft announced that Kinect for Windows v2 sensors are available for pre-order. The Kinect for Windows v2 sensor gives developers more of the precision, responsiveness, and intuitive capabilities they need to develop interactive voice and gesture-based applications. The pre-order offer is limited to the number of Kinect for Windows v2 sensors on hand, so pre-order them before it becomes sold out.
The Kinect for Windows v2 sensor does not ship with any software. It is intended for use with the Kinect for Windows SDK 2.0 (licensed separately) and will only operate with applications developed for Kinect for Windows v2. Developers can use the Kinect for Windows SDK 2.0 to build applications with C++, C#, or Visual Studio Basic by using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010.
