Qualcomm Executives On Comparing Lumia 2520’s Performance With Surface 2: “It’s Not Even Really A Contest”

Nokia Lumia 2520 Red

Surface 2 and Nokia Lumia 2520 are the only Windows RT tablets will be available in the near future. Even though both these devices runs on ARM processors, there is a huge difference between both of them as Surface 2 is powered by Nvidia Tegra 4 processor while Lumia 2520 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. Speaking to CNET, Qualcomm executives emphasized the better overall performance of Snapdragon 800 powering Lumia 2520 over Surface 2. They went on to state that it’s not even comparable!

“The performance on [the 2520]is brilliant,” Raj Talluri, senior vice president of product management for Qualcomm’s application processors, told CNET. “It’s really at the next level. It’s not even really a contest [compared to Surface 2]… In every area, it’s much bigger, faster, and lower power.”

We are yet to see the actual performance and battery life reviews of Lumia 2520 against the Surface 2 before drawing conclusions about both these ARM processors.

Does it really matter, since Nokia devices will soon be a part of Microsoft. It might be wise for Qualcomm to zip it up, before it irritates MS, and MS replaces Qualcomm chips with a Nvidia chip.

    • The1nChicago

Not going to happen. MS is in bed with Qualcomm 100 percent. Who do you think MS chose for WPs? I think MS should have gone with Qualcomm for the Surface as well. NVidia does not impress me.

    • techieg

Yeah, it doesn’t really matter because the various devices will deliver different performance and values. And I am really impressed with Nokia executing better than other OEMs out there that seem to want to do custom UI instead of delivering premium hardware designs. I personally think Nokia’s tablet design is second to Surface design, especially the cover/keyboard combo. I’m not even sure what other OEMs are doing.

Another QUALCOMM executive is talking to much.

Bashing the rivals is always right

Proof is in the pudding, with regards to the other comments Qualcomm have every right to big up their processor over NVIDIA’s and its not an attack on MS since they win either way

  • Emily the Strange

I think benchmarks are stupid… but when these people talk so much crap… why dont they show the benchmarks?? its not like they can say that and dont show if its faster or not.
we know Surface 2 is fast… so if this can be faster, show it Qualcomm.

    • Guest

Yes make no sense, you think their crap but then say you want benchmarks…then you would see them and say their crap.

Your not the sharpest knife in the draw are you?

I like strange but stupid not so much :(

  • Mike366

I believe him. Lumia 920 is faster than Surface RT. NVIDIA’s processor sucks

    • Joe_HTH

Is that why the Tegra 4 benchmarks higher in many tests, especially when it comes to graphics. The Tegra 4 has better graphics performance than a Snapdragon 800. The Snapdragon has slightly better CPU performance and is a bit more efficient. Still, it doesn’t come close to being what this Qualcomm executive is suggesting. They’re both very similar.

      Here’s a link for proof.

Replace the Nvidia and Qualcom with Intel Atom GoldMont already!
    Windows 10 is coming soon…
    wait! where is Windows 9? Oh…back in 2015/2016..that’s past…

  • Abraham Soto

The Tegra 4 is more efficient than the 800, the t4 clock speed is lower producing almost same result as the higher clocked 800.. If they put a t4 at the same cspeed of the 800 it destroy the 800.

  • counterblow

if Nvidia could get their damn battery saving core enabled he’d be right it wouldn’t be a contest cause Nvidia would run away on battery life.

  • Wtechrover

Bottow line is that Snapdragon 800 as well as the Tegra4 are big improvements over their previous versions. That’s what counts.

  • khingjay

Does it really matter when both of those devices are owned by and will be decided by Microsoft pretty soon?

  • vmxr

Doesn’t matter surface 2 and lumia 2520 have their own strength, unique features and design both aiming for the same goals saving RT grabbing market shares from competitors

  • Kruegerman

What Microsoft needs to do is get Samsung onboard both Windows RT and Windows Phone by certifying Exynos processors for both platforms.
