Report Claims That Microsoft Is Killing Zune Hardware


According to reports from Bloomberg, Microsoft is killing further developments of Zune hardware. So, this puts an end to Zune HD2, the iPod Touch competitor rumours to an end. Zune MP3 Players  didn’t sell much against the market leader iPod. The Zune HD, though being one of the awesome piece of hardware ever built, never took off in sales against the market leader iPod tocuh. But Microsoft’s plan was to make Zune brand a entertainment software experience that runs across screens. That was achieved so far, because Zune is now available on PC, TV, Mobile. Business insider also reports that Microsoft is planning to sell the remaining Zune hardware and stop any further development. Microsoft’s responds to the report to as follows,

“We have nothing to announce about another Zune device – but most recently have introduced Zune HD to Canada via Zune Originals store and remain committed to supporting our devices in North America. We are thrilled by the consumer excitement for Zune across many new platforms, including Windows Phone 7 and Xbox 360. Our long-term strategy focuses on the strength of the entire Zune ecosystem across Microsoft platforms.”

    It would be nice to see a stripped down version on a wp7 like zune device like the iPod that could be used over wi-fi, with all the other services for the magic price of $99 that would be awesome.

    I bought a Zune HD when it wasn’t even in Canada, it is the best, now Microsoft has to do something with letting us buy music in Canada
