Report: Dell Working On A 8-inch Windows 8.1 Tablet

Dell XPS 10 Windows RT Tablet

According to the latest report from Digitimes, Dell is working on a 8-inch Windows 8.1 device that will be released before end of this year. Dell is also working on a 10.1-inch Windows 8.1 device that will be either Intel Atom or Core i Series based device targeting mainly the enterprise market.

As Microsoft is ready to release Windows 8.1 on October 18, Jeff Clarke, Dell’s vice chairman and president of Global Operations and End User Computing Solutions, has expressed his optimism about the operating system. Compared to Android and iOS, Windows’ security and management abilities will allow the OS to become the top pick of the enterprise PC industry, Clarke noted.

Although Clarke has mentioned that Dell is planning to release several Windows-based tablets in the second half, he has not provided much detail for the related plans.

Are you looking for the device from Dell?

Sorry Dell, I already have your latitude 10. I’m going for Nokia’s sirius next time.

The Dell 8.1 tablet will be Intel-based so it will appeal to a different market compared to the Nokia Arm-based Sirius.

I already bought myself a latitude 10 a couple of weeks ago so I feel that buying another one dell tablet is probably overkill. The nice thing about the upcoming 8″ tablets with full windows is they also have office installed. But I already have an acer w510 and latitude 10, so no more! But I’m looking forward to the Nokia sirius for one big reason. Built-in GPS (not a-gps) and if I hear correctly Here drive app for RT. CAR MOD TIME!!! I’m gonna crack my dashboard open and install Nokia’s tablet. Hopefully they also sell one in a neutral color.

I keep getting the feeling that most OEM’s are missing the point! Currently, using Atom on tablets is useless, using them on an 8″ is worse than..! Using a Core series just makes it a weighty proposition that gains nothing. All the naysayers that keep saying no one is buying Windows tablets because they aren’t/weren’t full-blown W9, aren’t going to buy these either.

I wouldn’t suggest those that have already tried RT should try again, as they put little to no effort into design, pricing or marketing, and, with the exception of Dell, have generally pooped all over it. So, no. We aren’t interested in your half-hearted efforts!

I already have the Surface RT, so whomever can deliver to me an innovatively designed 8″ RT tablet first, gets my money!
