Report: Microsoft Launching 8-inch Surface RT Device In June For US$249-299

Acer W3 Windows 8 PC1

We have seen multiple reports in the past that Microsoft is planning to release a 8-inch Surface RT device this year. Digitimes today reported some more information about the upcoming device. They expect 8-inch Surface RT device will be launched in June with the price tag between US$249-299 and a 10.x-inch model as early as the third quarter of 2013.

The 8-inch Surface will use touch panels supplied by Samsung Electronics and Nvidia-developed processors, and Taiwan-based ODM Pegatron will be responsible for production, the sources said.

If the above report turns out to be true, we can expect Microsoft giving away new Surface RT devices to developers at BUILD conference in June.

I wonder if this will have the new nvida chipset and we have a 10 RT already what about an 8 in atom tablet for 399 I would buy that …

  • CX1

Hope they add inking/active stylus support this go round.

    • Bugbog

Not for that price! (Unless, of course, it doesn’t have Office?!)

      • kalval

There doesn’t seem to be a reason not to include office unless it’s going to be available to purchase for RT in the Windows store. No point removing a huge selling point unless they are getting more money through letting people buy it.

If MS sells this for $249 with a touch-cover, add a killer game/app(free) and a more intuitive commercial letter consumers know that WIN8 Desktop is still just as productive as WIN 7 just added a metroish flavor for apps this would sell. MS Has a serious issue with delivery. This is where Apple’s marketing team crushes its competition.

    • KCMatt

It’s too small for a touch cover

      • Alexander Nevrmind

You do realize that it was implied that MS would have a touch-cover specifically made for said tablet?

        • wormywyrm

It’ll be interesting to see what they do, because it will probably not be wide enough to have a comfortable keyboard unless the keyboard is wider than the tablet…They might do a gaming attachment instead to turn it into a xbox one controller.

    Hopefully it will be 1080p.

We can only live in hope, Android 7″ tablets are $68 here now, come on MS, hurry up all ready !
