Report: Steve Ballmer Offers $1.8 Billion For Los Angeles Clippers

Last week we reported that Shirley Sterling met with former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to discuss the sale of the Clippers (a professional American Basketball team). The NBA (National Basketball Association) is forcing the Clippers owner Donald Sterling to sell the team after racist remarks were leaked by his girlfriend V Stiviano. Mr. Sterling handed control of the sale over to his ex-wife Shirley Sterling.

Today, Forbes reports that Steve Ballmer has offered $1.8 billion for the Los Angeles Clippers, according to a person familiar with Ballmer’s interest in the NBA team. Also, Steve Ballmer if wins the bidding will keep the team in Los Angeles as opposed to the fear among Clippers fans that Mr. Ballmer will move the team to Seattle.

Another source, with intimate knowledge of the bids that Rochelle Sterling has thus far received for the basketball team, said offers have come in between $1 billion and $2 billion and that the Ballmer package is strong.

It is still early in the bidding process for the Clippers and it is quite possible that the price could go higher, especially if interested parties join forces to buy the team.
