Shocker: Former Windows Chief Steven Sinofsky to Join Apple; Will Work on a “Re-imagined” MacOS

35

In an unexpected move, former Windows chief Steven Sinofsky has brokered a deal with Apple for him and some of his former lieutenants to join Apple. George Grant, Jon DeVaan, Antoine Leblond, and Tami Reller will join Sinofsky in the move to Cupertino.  Sinofsky will be working on the next version of Mac OS.

Tim Cook commented briefly the acquisition of the high profile talent:

“I met Steven at a Yoga class in Palo Alto and we have become great friends ever since.  It turns out we have a lot in common besides yoga.  We had bosses named Steve; we both love secrecy, great taste in sweaters, and support common causes like gay marriage.

I thought Steven would be a great asset for Apple. Given his experience on Office, I initially asked him to come head the iWork team.  But as our talks progressed, Steven said he had some “super cool” ideas for the Mac OS and wanted to “re-imagine” it.”

The Mac OS operating system of course has stagnated over the last few years with most of the resources being into the iOS operating system.  Usage has held steady around 6%.  The Mac has borrowed a few features from iOS but still does not support touch screen.  If anyone could make a radical change to the Mac OS, Steven Sinofsky could do it.

Steven Sinofsky commented briefly on his move to Cupertino:

“Over the last two years I have gotten to take some time of and do some super cool things.  It has been a great learning experience, but now it is time to get back to work.

Failure is a great way to learn.  And the lessons from Windows 8 will certainly be taken into account when working on the re-imagined touch first Mac OS.  I have the chance to make a meaningful impact to millions of people again”

Box CEO Aaron Levie commented about the announcement.

Loopholes, they’ll always find loopholes. :-( It’s so sad that he was fired, probably because they all saw him as a ”C.E.O. in waiting” while it’s a fact that ONLY AND ONLY Stephen Elop will lead Microsoft (as some news agencies still speculate on it, saying that Satya Nadella ”is a dead man-walkin’ ”…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………) but I still suspect Elop to lead, ELOP = FLOP ‘N FLOPS FOR DA WINZ. One thing I do suspect is that he (Sinofsky) will envision O.S. X to unify with iO.S. it’s also sad that he wants to bring so many other ”Softies” to Crapple, I hope that iO.S. will fail before O.S. X will even get a chance to blossom, something I hope he won’t do is let Crapple license it to other O.E.M.’s (>_<)

Tim Cook; “Thanks, but no thanks. Steven you already did as much as you could for Apple by giving us that Windows 8 debacle.”

    • LexicoRed

      @Guest, that is funny :-D

    • VHMP01

So OSX is completely doomed because even with W8 debacle it could not pass 6% market share mark, right?

      • Guest

I would guess Tim Cook would respond to you by pointing out “There is a more important definition of success the market share; Profitability. But keep up the good work with WP8, Bing, Surface 2 & Pro and maybe one day they too may find profitable even if they still on the low end of market share.”

        • VHMP01

WP8 is gaining little by little in Europe and South America! Bing is gaining little by little Worldwide! I hope soon I will get a Surface Pro 2 and stop joking around with toy tablets! And I could not care less about Tim Crook!

          • Guest

I am not clear what you mean by toy tablet but quite sure your in agreement with MSFT new CEO in the belief that iPad is a great productive tool and even more so with the MS Office suite available for old school business workers.

BTW you may want to hurry picking up your Surface 2, it looks as if Nadella understands it is a money loser and will soon stop making the laptop. The good news for you there will be increasing sales on the product as MS tries to get rid if the dust inventory.

          • VHMP01

For me a Tablet needs enough power and not just toy specs. So what if Surface stops production, Samsung or Sony or Toshiba or Asus or whoever will make a powerfull portable and light enough to make it usable, Surface opened the way really with its specs, not like overgrown MP3 spec players!

          • Guest

So your wanting a product that carries a 64-bit desktop architecture, the good news you do not have to wait. The iPad Air A7 does so be it intense graphic production needs or old school app needs of Office the tablet your dream of exist today. So it is a great day for you, enjoy it with love & happiness in your heart!

          • VHMP01

Duh! Where exactly do you plug a USB in it? Of course with out a bunch of cables being awfull all over the place! An external monitor easily pluged? Drivers for any sort of hardware functioning directly in it? Not jus a lie of 64 Bit with 4 Gb or less RAM. Keep dreaming!

  • redtidal

I expect another “Elop” move from Sinofsky. In less than five years, MS will be able to buy Apple on a dime.

    • XBoxerOne

“MS will be able to buy Apple on a dime”
That may be one of the most uninformed statement that had been ever posted on this or any other website. In fact if @Redtilal is an example of a typical MS supporter, out of embarrassment I will no longer claim to be one and start to believe the pundents who claim MS is in deep trouble.

      • Guest

I am sure redtidal was just making an April Fools’ Day joke, no one is that thick.

      • redtidal

And you believed that Sinofsky joined Apple? Just how dumb are you?

        • xBoxerOne

Not so dumb to say “In less then five years MS will buy Apple on a dime” but I would have to be near brain dead to let something that ignorant dribble out of my head.
