Steve Ballmer has once again confirmed the company will continue to explore new opportunities to make their own hardware.

Speaking at a tech event yesterday he said:

"Do I anticipate that partners of ours will build the lion’s share of all Windows devices over the next five years? The answer is, absolutely," Steve Ballmer said.

"With that said, it is absolutely clear that there is an innovation opportunity on the scene between hardware and software and that is a scene that must not go unexploited at all by Microsoft," he said.

There likely next target for Microsoft is the long rumoured Surface Phone, but of course a Surface II tablet is almost guaranteed to appear eventually.

Is there any other hardware we wish Microsoft would produce? Let us know below.

Surface hardware that supports Win 8/Pro. Form factor is excellent and this truly is a portable. A Surface phone would be interesting in the right form factor but utilising upcoming flexible screen tech (aka Samsung) would introduce a new dimension in the mobile world. Now that could open the doors to a whole new niche.

You can always try that Acer Iconia (1000?) Double screen notebook again. I think it would work great with Windows 8 now! (I wonder if anyone has done that yet?!)

What I want to see is devices Microsoft show in their Productivity Future Vision start with the phone.

You mean the phone with no bezel whatsoever? It might look cool in the video, but I find it just stupid from the user perspective. Either all the apps (and websites) would have some kind of frame on the sides (which would kill the additional space anyway) or people would end up randomly clicking user controls on the sides of the phone when trying to hold it in their hand. I’ve heard people bitching about some tablets and their wide bezels. but this area without a touch screen has a reason to be there.

So make it TouchLESS!!! Kinnect comes in… Wouldn’t it be great to have no bezel and no finger smudges on a ultra small device with 5″ screen?

Is it just me, or did the author (Admin) miss the “There” vs “Their” in the second-to-last paragraph?

    Yes I’m a stickler. Sorry

MS has Kinect and Robotic Studio, they should go one step further and market and sell their consumer targeted robots. Imagine every home has a MS robot. That is a massive market. The next big thing. Now be a leader and take the market before Apple comes in.
