Microsoft unveiled the Surface 2, Surface Pro 2, and new accessories at a press event in New York City today.  Among the new accessories was the successor to the Touch Cover, the Touch Cover 2 which includes a backlit keyboard.

The same revolutionary dual-purpose keyboard and protective cover in one, but even lighter and thinner. A colorful, smooth exterior lets you type up to two times faster than onscreen. Type email, chat, and work.

Touch Cover 2:

Thinner and lighter than the original Touch Cover, measuring only 2.75 mm thin, Touch Cover 2 features backlit keys for even better readability. Touch Cover 2 is more rigid, registers keystrokes with greater accuracy and features updated sensors that support a variety of gestures across the entire keyboard. Touch Cover 2 has an estimated retail price of $119.99. It will be available for pre-order on Sept. 24 in all markets where Surface devices are available for pre-order.

They should ship this with the Surface 2 and make the type-board optional, that would easily both boost sales and justify the price of the R.T. 2.
