“and has a projected release date of early 2014.”
Hard to understand why it takes that long to have this available.

      Um. Manufacturing?

Um. They’ve been hinting about it for more than six months, which means they’ve been working on it even longer. It shouldn’t take a year to go from concept to availability for something this simple.

It’s also pretty stupid to tell your competitor what you’re doing. By ‘early 2014′ when Microsoft has rolled this product out to the US and just a few other countries in its usual slow way, Samsung will have launched something very similar world-wide.
Samsung have today camera units almost as good as the Lumia 1020, for example, which means that 5 years’ development by Nokia will probably only give Microsoft a 12 month lead in this area. Microsoft needs to start moving as fast as Samsung if they want to be competitive.

I still hope that Microsoft will concentrate on making the Surface and Lumia lines the best in terms of battery, this is usually the selling point for Apple devices, this should be the final straw in dethroning the King, all Apple really has is battery, Nokia defeated them at camera, photo- and video-editing, Microsoft will soon have that technology, so there’s literally just this small detail left, beat them at battery and they’re done.
