The NSA is not the only entity that is bringing competitive tech giants together. (See: Microsoft Joins Facebook, Google And Others Calling For Reforms Of Government Surveillance) From Microsoft and Google to Twitter and Facebook, the biggest names of the Internet are blasting a federal judge’s decision allowing an Arizona-based gossip website to be sued for defamation by a former Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader convicted of having sex with a teenager. In court briefs recently filed in the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, the Internet giants warn that if upheld, the northern Kentucky judge’s ruling to let the former cheerleader’s lawsuit proceed has the potential to “significantly chill online speech” and undermine a law passed by Congress in 1996 that provides broad immunity to websites. “If websites are subject to liability for failing to remove third-party content whenever someone objects, they will be subject to the ‘heckler’s veto,’ giving anyone ...

By now I’m sure you have seen the CBS 60 Minutes report by Charlie Rose, featuring Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos showing off a drone delivery system for packages.  At best, the project is 5 years down the line, and it has now been widely reported the news report was a commercial to help Amazon on Cyber Monday. Huffington Post: First Victim of Amazon Drones: The Credibility of CBS and 60 Minutes Breitbart: Media Duped By Amazon’s Spectacular Drone Ploy Many people asked why Bezos personally bought the Washington Post, I think we now know why.  Interesting to note, Amazon is also building a datacenter for the CIA, an organization that is a fan of drones too.  But these discussions are beyond the scope of this blog, onto the main topic at hand. Amazon has announced the AWS SDK support for Windows Store and Windows Phone applications. The developer preview of the next version of our AWS SDK for .NET will add two major enhancements for .NET developers. The first is support for the Microsoft Windows Store and Windows Phone applications.  With the new SDK, you can connect your Windows Phone or Windows Store apps to AWS services and you can build a cross-targeted application that’s backed by AWS. The other big enhancement is our support for the task-based asynchronous pattern.  This pattern uses the async and await keywords and makes programming asynchronous operations against AWS easy. That did not take long. There has been a lot of speculation about muted demand for Windows 8, so it must be of some reassurance to Microsoft that pre-orders for the Windows 8 Pro DVD edition at $69.99 has stormed to the top of Amazon’s Best Sellers list and has been sitting there for the last 4 days, despite a much cheaper download option being available. Microsoft has projected that they will sell 400 million copies of Windows 8 over the next year, and is in the process of spending $1.5 billion on advertising the new operating system. I suspect this showing is just the start of shutting the critics up. Via Neowin.net ...
