Despite severe stock shortages and a high price the Microsoft Surface pro has still managed to make it onto Best Buy’s Bet Seller list, currently sitting in 4th spot behind much, much cheaper Amazon Kindle and Samsung Galaxy Tab. The Windows 8 tablet has been seeing severe supply shortages, but Microsoft has promised to restock this weekend, and is currently taking pre-orders for delivery later in the month. In what is either masterful spin or material information which suggests the Surface tablets are selling much better than expected, Microsoft has said it has increased their Surface tablet production and will be expanding the retail locations the tablet will be available. “The public reaction to Surface has been exciting to see. We’ve increased production and are expanding the ways in which customers can interact with, experience and purchase Surface,” said Panos Panay, general manager, Microsoft Surface. Microsoft said it would make some of their pop-up stores permanent, and would make the tablets available via retailers in Australia and USA. Windows 8 PCs are not supposed to hit shelves until the 26th October, but logistics does not work that way, and if PCs are to be sold then they need to be in store rooms already, and sometimes that spills over onto shelves. WinSource reports that they have been sent the above pictures from a Best Buy store in St. Cloud, MN , where several Windows 8 PCs are already on display. The Wall Street Journal reports Microsoft plans to extend its Xbox 360 subscription plan, where buyers pay $99 and then $19.99 per month for two years for an Xbox 360 and Kinect bundle, beyond its Microsoft stores to all U.S. Best Buy Co. stores and a "select" grouping of GameStop Corp. stores. The deal includes access to Xbox Live Gold (usually around $60 per year). Microsoft still considers the scheme a pilot, noting that consumers have responded well so far. While many feel the deal is all about supporting “soft” Xbox sales as the current generation comes to an end, Lewis Ward, an analyst at IDC, speculates that it is all about preparing customers for the same deal next year, when the next version of the Xbox console is expected to be announced.
