Earlier this year, we reported about a job listing from Microsoft Xbox team that Microsoft is working on a groundbreaking Reading app for Windows devices, which incorporates books, magazines, and comics. I recently came across three new patents from Microsoft related to Story Reading. Some of them could be part of the new Reading experience Microsoft Xbox team is building right now. Microsoft today announced couple of new feature in Bing that will allow students to find new content both online and offline. When you search Bing for subjects such as trigonometry or history, Bing will now showcase a list of popular, free online courses available on the Khan Academy site to the right of search results page. They are also rolling out a new book finding feature that showcases whether a given title is available online for free or for reservation at your local library. Microsoft announced partnership with Barnes and Noble back in 2012 and even created a new joint venture company called Nook Media LLC. Since then, the only thing that came of out partnership was Barnes & Noble’s Windows 8 app. Recently it was rumored that B&N has stopped developing apps for Windows platform since Microsoft is developing its own Xbox branded reader with content powered by Barnes & Noble in the backend. Earlier this month, we reported that in an interview to GeekWire, Barnes & Noble CEO Mike Huseby said that they are in a very, very good relationship with Microsoft despite the recent partnership with Samsung.
