Recently, I came across as Microsoft patent application which was published to the public. In the patent, Microsoft described as system for multi-user and multi-device collaboration. With the advent of different types of devices, users uses various technologies for managing documents of various types, data of various types, calendar information, contacts information, and the like. Users are able to create and share useful presentations, charts, images, and the like. But, users are not able to collaborate with others on the data they created. For example, users gather in a conference room with printed paper documents, presentations, or other, followed by hand-writing collaborative information on a board, and followed by transcription of such information onto one or more notepads or into one or more computing devices. Box, a leading cloud storage and collaboration startup has today announced a new set of integrations between Box and Microsoft for customers using Office 365. Box expects that these integrations will provide secure, mobile collaboration and content management that’s tightly tied to where users are creating content, including: Box for Office 2013 Desktop: Users can easily open, edit, share and save any file from Box seamlessly within Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Box for Outlook 2013 Desktop: Box streamlines email workflow, enabling users to share links to files already stored in Box and convert document attachments to secure Box shared links. Microsoft today released a major feature in Outlook Web App for Office 365 users. This new feature will enable enhanced document collaboration experience for the users. Till now, when you send Office files as attachments, the other person has to first download the document to make the edits and reattach it to send it back. This requires multiple steps and context switches, which can be distracting and time-consuming. This new feature announced today aims to improve the way people interact with files as attachments in their email.
