Last week, we reported about VLC Player for Windows 8‘s upcoming Zune like UI. Yesterday, VideoLAN team shared more screenshots of the current UI they are working on. Also he provided a shot update on the progress of the work, they are going to submit in to Windows Store in next couple of days. The leaks of Windows 8.1 Update 1 continues. Everyday, we are coming to know about new feature/tweaks that Microsoft is working on Windows 8.1. Today’s leak reveals couple of significant changes. As you can see in the screenshot above, Microsoft is now adding two new buttons next to user account menu. You now have Search and Power buttons which will allow you to access search and power options. Previously, these two options were hidden in Charms menu. Even though this is good news for users to access these items with ease, I personally think this is adding clutter to the Start screen.   You may recall some months back we reported on VLC’s kickstarter to raise $75,000 in an effort to create a free Metro Win8 App. The project has been behind schedule and we reported on their progress in June. In October the team finally got the video portion of the app working, but not the audio. Later they finished the audio implementation and submitted it for certification from Microsoft. Unfortunately, it was rejected by Microsoft due to audio crashing issue. VideoLan team is now working on to fix the audio related issue and they are expected to re-submit the app sometime next week. Yesterday we posted screenshots of early Windows 8.1 2014 Update builds. It revealed one noticeable feature that many were complaining about, you can now pin Windows Store apps to taskbar. If you are among the millions of people who spend most of the time on classic desktop screen and rely on couple of Metro apps, this is a great feature. As you can see in the screenshot above, Windows Store app is pinned to the taskbar. Apart from that, the pinned Windows Store apps in taskbar also supports thumbnail previews. Microsoft today announced the availability of Visual Studio 2013 Update 1 for download. S. Somasegar, corporate vice president of the Developer Division at Microsoft made the following announcement on his blog regarding this release.   Microsoft released a firmware update for Surface Pro 2 users in December and then later pulled it due to issues caused by the update. Microsoft then said, “To ensure the best experience for our customers during the holiday season, we have taken steps to remove the update for Surface Pro 2 that was previously published through Windows Update on December 10,” and even confirmed that they are working to release an alternative update package after the holidays.
