IDC today reported that worldwide PC shipments totaled 73.4 million units in the first quarter of 2014 (1Q14), a decline of -4.4% year on year as a result of continuing weakness in consumer and emerging market segments. Windows XP was one of the main reasons for growth in commercial market segments as Microsoft is ending the support for OS. Lenovo maintained its lead in total worldwide PC shipments, followed by HP and Dell. HP today announced two business focused laptops running Windows 8.1. The two new devices are EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 and EliteBook Revolve G2. EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 comes with machined aluminum body, 14-inch display that weighs 3.3 pounds 15.9mm thinner. It is powered by Intel 4th gen processor and offers upto 10 hours battery life. HP has struggling ever since it probably made the second stupidest decision ever to fire Mark Hurd as CEO over a minor affair (the fist being to then instate Leo Apotheker as CEO).   At an annual financial meeting, HP’s current CEO Meg Whitman had strong comments in an address to analysts.  You may recall previously Whitman was Ebay’s CEO and ran unsuccessfully for governor of California before taking her current job at HP.
