Lenovo today reported results for its financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2014, with quarterly revenue of US$10.4 billion, an 18 percent increase year-over-year while quarter pre-tax income increased 22 percent year-over-year to US$264 million. The main highlight is that Lenovo is maintaining its position as the world’s largest PC maker for five consecutive quarters. Also they have achieved highest-ever quarterly market share of 19.4 percent* up 2.7 points year-over-year, driven by growth in EMEA and the Americas. Synergy Research Group today released their recent data on cloud computing market. It revealed that Microsoft is the fastest growing among the top 4 companies leading in cloud infrastructure services. While Amazon still remains the largest vendor by far, it is now starting to face tougher competition, from Microsoft and others. AWS did not grow its cloud revenues on a sequential basis, and consequently saw its at year-on-year growth rate drop to 49%. Canalys today reported that worldwide client PC shipments which includes tablets reached 123.7 million units in Q1 2014, up 5% year on year. Even though the growth in tablet shipments slowed to 21%, yet at 50.8 million units they continued to out-ship notebooks. Notebooks shipments fell sharply in China and European regions while US remained flat. Lenovo continued to lead among the Windows OEM whereas Samsung is pushed to 4th place by HP as they are leaving the mainstream PC ecosystem to focus on their mobile efforts.
