According to the survey by Netcraft which includes responses from over 975,262,468 sites, Microsoft is threatening the position of Apache as the top web server. Microsoft gained about 9 million additional sites this month, increasing its market share by a further 0.37 percentage points. So, Apache still leads with 37.6% of all sites, while Microsoft is now just 4.1 percentage points behind. Around 11 thousand of these new sites are hosted on the Microsoft Azure platform (including a few phishing sites), helping to maintain Microsoft’s position as the largest Windows hosting company in terms on web-facing computers. Most of the new IIS sites at Azure are hosted in the US, with more than a third of the total being hosted in ...

I came across few interesting patents from Microsoft that got published by the USPTO recently. Below are the some of them with their abstract content. BATTERY WITH COMPUTING, SENSING AND COMMUNICATION CAPABILTIES Electrical battery apparatus embodiments are presented that generally involve incorporating sensing, computing, and communication capabilities into the one common component that a vast number of electronic devices employ–namely batteries. By integrating these capabilities into disposable and/or rechargeable batteries, new functionality and intelligence can be provided to otherwise stand-alone devices. Microsoft today posted a video on YouTube talking about the design of Xbox One gaming console. They were highlighting about the seamless integration of Xbox One hardware and software through a unified design language. The design language, which uses a series of tiles and fluid motion, is steeped in the same DNA as Modern UI, the unifying language shared by Microsoft products like Windows 8 and Microsoft Surface. It draws inspiration from 16:9, which is the number that describes the width-to-height ratio most common in today’s high-definition wide screen TVs. The aspect ratio is naturally pleasing to the eye, and synonymous with cinematic presentation and the living room entertainment experience, two qualities that the Xbox team wanted embodied by Xbox One. The video also teases the upcoming Halo 5 game. Microsoft is expected to reveal Halo 5 game at E3 2014 in June. Another video titled Xbox One Design “Tell” ...

Microsoft today announced new forecasting capabilities in Power View for Office 365 users. Power View performs advanced statistical analysis of the data in your line charts to generate forecasts that incorporate trends and seasonal factors. So how does forecasting work? Forecasting in Power View is based on an established suite of methods for time series prediction called exponential smoothing. Over the years many methods have been developed for the analysis of time series, depending on whether the data is strongly seasonal or has no seasonality, how much noise there is in the data, and whether the data contains “surprises” or irregular peaks. In Power View, you can now apply predictive forecasting, and hindcasting, when visualizing and exploring your data. Forecasting in Power View utilizes built-in predictive forecasting models using exponential smoothing to automatically detect seasonality in the data to provide forecast results from a series of data. Explore forecast results by ...
