Earlier this week, Microsoft announced the launch of Microsoft Video Network, a new offering that enables advertisers to buy user-initiated, non-skippable pre-roll video ads on brand-safe sites across 350 publishers. The Microsoft Video Network will help advertisers to reach for their campaigns outside of Microsoft’s owned and operated properties. Microsoft claims that Microsoft Video Network is hugely competitive when it comes to audience targeting, using a combination of Microsoft’s unique first party data along with leading third-party data providers. Over the past six years advertising budgets have moved away from traditional TV and into online video –accelerated by changes in traditional media consumption such as multiscreen and on-demand viewing, alongside technological advances that have led to digital media buying becoming less and less complex. These factors have led to video advertising spend rising approximately 85 per cent year on year according to the IAB, with the current supply and demand models ...

Microsoft shut that service down in 2010.  However, like Google Microsoft still publishes results of some of the most popular searches at the end of each year.  Here are the most popular celebrities searched by country.  I have also provided a sample image of what you may find while doing a search on Bing for select celebrities. Microsoft has recently announced that it is shutting down the msnNow trending news website. msnNOW is presenting the most interesting trends from real-time sources like Facebook, Twitter, Bing, and BreakingNews.com. Going forward, Microsoft is planning a section at MSN to cover offbeat news. Here is the message from the team, msnNOW launched with the goal of making it easy to discover the stories people are searching for and talking about the most. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed presenting this irresistibly viral content – ranging from binders full of women to buckets full of animals – to our large and loyal audience. However, as part of our ongoing work to fine-tune our editorial mix, we’ve decided that msnNOW will stop publishing on December 3, 2013. Rather than having a single home for trending content, we will continue integrating that material throughout all MSN channels. We’ve learned a lot by successfully curating the most interesting stories ...

New reports emerged today saying that Microsoft is cutting the number of contractors who work at MSN. The move was as a result of the reorganization within Microsoft which was announced in July. Microsoft confirmed that MSN full-time employees are not affected and in fact they are planning to increase the FTE count at MSN. There are “lots of increased investments going on,” said Brian MacDonald, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Apps, Media and Publishing group, which includes MSN and Bing Apps. “We are increasing the full time staffing and permanent spend by converting some vendor dollars. “Total dollars spent in the Puget Sound area is increasing on MSN and the Bing apps,” he said. “This is a line item budget shift but absolutely not a spend reduction for cost savings.” There is no clear information on how many full-time employees are to be recruited and how many contractors who worked at MSN ...

Yahoo’s Carol Bartz and Steve Ballmer in happier times There is talks of AOL and Yahoo looking for a merger, but now Microsoft is also rumoured to be sniffing around the ailing Yahoo. "Definitely, people are talking about it," a MSN source told Business Insider. While we usually think in terms of Bing and Yahoo, which makes the deal less attractive as Microsoft has a 10 year search deal with the company, it is Microsoft’s MSN destination which could benefit the most from an outright purchase. The source told Business Insider Microsoft was not interested in AOL, noting "Yahoo is a lot more interesting. If it comes into play, then at least their U.S. media business is a pretty interesting asset. It’s complicated because of those Asian assets." "The portal space is challenged. Facebook is just absorbing more and more minutes – usage. That’s having an effect on portals. The ...
