Microsoft recently confirmed the availability of new Windows 8.1 with Bing SKU for OEMs. At BUILD conference, Microsoft announced that Windows will be available for 0 dollars to their hardware partners for Windows Phones and tablets smaller than 9-inches in screen size. This free Windows for OEMs will be the Windows 8.1 with Bing SKU. Also with the Windows 8.1 Update, Microsoft is enabling the hardware partners to build lower cost devices with only 1GB of memory and 16GB of storage that provide customers with the fast and fluid experience they expect from a Windows device. Microsoft OEM Twitter account today revealed that new Windows devices will be announced at the Computex conference next week in Taiwan. COMPUTEX Taipei is a computer expo held annually in Taipei, Taiwan and lots of ODMs, component suppliers, etc, from around the world meet to share their latest work. Microsoft used these events in the past focused on hardware specific announcements related to OEMs. This year, Microsoft has revealed that there will be new Windows devices being announced at this event. Today Lenovo introduced two new additions to its FLEX family of dual mode laptops with the new FLEX 2 laptops available in 14 and 15.6-in models. The laptops have the ability traditional laptop in “laptop mode” or to be used in “stand mode” by flipping the keyboard underneath the screen 300 degrees. Last week Microsoft announced it would stop selling Windows 7 to OEMs on October 30, 2014.  But it appears that might have been a mistake and the Redmond software giant released this statement: “We have yet to determine the end of sales date for PCs with Windows 7 preinstalled. The October 30, 2014 date that posted to the Windows Lifecycle page globally last week was done so in error. We have since updated the website to note the correct information; however, some non-English language pages may take longer to revert to correctly reflect that the end of sales date is ‘to be determined.’ We apologize for any confusion this may have caused our customers.
