Recently, I came across three different patents from Microsoft that hints at possible features in the upcoming wearable device from Microsoft. All three patents are related to fitness management using the wearable. Based on previous reports, we already know that Microsoft is working on a smartwatch. The smartwatch will work with iPhones, Android and Windows devices. It will continuously measure heart rate through the day and night and will offer up to two days of battery life. Reecently, Gearlive.com claimed that they have seen the device in person, and it was similar to Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit in appearance. The device will include heart rate monitor, accelerometer, gyroscope, GPS, and a galvanic skin response sensor all built-in. Based on previous reports, we all know that Microsoft is working on a fitness oriented wearable device that will be compatible with iOS and Android devices in addition to Windows Phone devices. Today, IBTimes reported that this upcoming fitness band will feature a blood-glucose monitor and a UV sensor. The device will feature a UV Index sensor to help warn the user of harmful levels of ultraviolet radiation from sunlight in order to better protect against the risk of skin cancer. The blood-glucose monitor will be used to help track users’ fitness levels and assist people who suffer from diabetes. WSJ reported that Microsoft has requested 1.5-inch displays from component makers as per an executive at a component supplier. Another report claimed that Microsoft’s smartwatch prototypes which are now being part of Surface team is making variety of removable wrist bands in blue, red, yellow, black, white, and grey colors for smartwatches.
