A new report makes a number of claims regarding the long rumored Surface Mini.  It is believed Microsoft is working on a smaller version of the Surface 2 tablet, around ~8 inches and likely to be based on the Qualcomm chipset. New information believes the device will be marketed a “consumption-class” device that is also ideal for note taking.  As with the current Surface 2, the Surface Mini is expected to ship with Office.  The Surface Mini will also support an an active digitizer and theoretically could support a Wacom digitizer with the correct drivers.  It may be a pen/stylus similar to that found on the Surface Pro devices.   Problems with the current supply chain, in keeping up with demand to produce current Surfaces in the market, was one reason the Surface Mini was not launched last fall.  The exact price and launch date is still unknown.  It is ...

During a Reddit AmA on new Surface devices back in September 2013, Surface team confirmed that they are working on LTE version of Surface devices. Why was LTE not included on neither Surface nor Surface Pro? We didn’t talk about it today, but Surface 2 will be launching an awesome LTE SKU early next year! Looks like the time has come. A Surface device with AT&T LTE has now passed through the FCC which again confirms that we are closer to launch. We can expect the device either in March or April. FCC published the Surface with LTE documents just today and since it comes with confidentiality request, we have very less details on the device. Neowin noted in the testing report that the device is running Windows RT OS. “EUT driver software installed during testing was Windows RT8.1 Preview Build 943”. I guess the device should be identical to current Surface 2 with an added option for cellular. What do ...

Little information is known regarding the Surface Mini.  We reported earlier that the 8-inch Surface Mini will not be unveiled at Microsoft’s Surface event later this month.  Previously rumors had emerged that the Surface RT 2 (Surface 2) would run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, this turned out to false, and the Surface 2 will continue to run on the Nvidia Tegra 4 chipset.  However, it appears the Surface Mini will utilize a QUALCOMM processor, which makes sense given the company’s close relation with Windows Phone.  New information has emerged confirming that the Surface Mini will run Windows RT 8.1.  Winsupersite reports: It will ship this year, but a bit later than the new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2. It utilizes a Qualcomm processor, so it’s an ARM device and will be running Windows RT 8.1, not Windows 8.1. And it will indeed have an 8-inch screen. Source: WinSuperSite ...
