We have heard many rumors about the upcoming Surface Mini tablet from Microsoft. One of the main thing was, it will run on Qualcomm Snapdragon processor as opposed to Nvdia Tegra processor in Surface 2. Also, the device was rumored to have a 8-inch device. Another report claimed that the device will be marketed a “consumption-class” device that is also ideal for note taking.  As with the current Surface 2, the Surface Mini is expected to ship with Office.  The Surface Mini will also support an an active digitizer and theoretically could support a Wacom digitizer with the correct drivers.  It may be a pen/stylus similar to that found on the Surface Pro devices. This new instillation process was added with Windows 8.1 Update and it allows devices with 16GB or 32GB SSDs or eMMC storage to have plenty of storage left for apps and data after Windows is installed. Today Microsoft has open sourced the code of the Windows Library for JavaScript (WinJS).  It is being released under the Apache 2.0 license as an Open Source project by Microsoft Open Technologies (MS Open Tech). The source code is available now on GitHub where developers provide feedback, and submit contributions. Additionally, WinJS is taking its first steps to becoming cross-platform by supporting browsers and other devices. Gartner today released their worldwide tablet market share for 2013 in which a total of 195.4 million units were sold. Apple’s iOS share fell to 36% while Android took 61.9% of the market, thanks  to low-end small screen tablets attracting first time buyers. Microsoft Windows had 2.1% of the market with a total of 4 million units sold in 2013. Microsoft has a long way to go in tablet market to catch up to Apple and Google.
