Microsoft today released set of firmware and driver updated for both its Surface RT and Surface Pro devices. These update brings enhance stability, reliability and more. Here is the full change log. Microsoft Surface RT devices does not support External Ethernet so far and there were some workarounds to make it work. But even those solutions are not working right now. According to ZDNet, Microsoft is working on bringing  External Ethernet support to Surface RT devices. Also Microsoft is working with hardware partners to make external Ethernet dongles that support Connected Standby, the Windows 8 feature that provides instant-on/off whenever network connections are available. The Microsoft Surface has not been free of WIFI issues, with many users complaining of losing connectivity which eventually needs switching WIFI on and off to fix. Now Microsoft has revealed the changelog of an update which will address that and other issues. The Xbox Music app is not exactly the best advert for Windows 8, being slow, laggy and low on features. Microsoft has now unveiled version 1.1.144.0 of Xbox Music, which improves access to streaming free music and the transition from a trial subscription to a paid Xbox Music Pass as well as a fix to minimize occasional playback concerns and additional bug fixes which were very prominent in the app before the update.  As well as the obvious fixes, the performance of the Xbox Music app appears to be smoother and more efficient after the update.  To force an update check on the app, launch the Windows Store, then go to settings, then under App Updates you can manually check for the new version of Xbox music. As part of its regular “Patch Tuesday” security update Microsoft has pushed out a patch for Windows RT. The update includes a System Firmware (UEFI) update which improvements to audio playback when in Connected Standby  and brings additional capabilities for handling firmware updates during low battery situations. Major updates for Windows 8 apps were released last month, including updates for the Finance app via the Windows Store which include enhancements and improvements in network connectivity and navigation improvements as well as new stock exchanges and news content partners.  An update for the News app has also occurred, showing improvements in mouse and keyboard navigation for Windows 8 users as well as more support for regional news sources and additional news outlets and various performance improvements.  However, the News and Finance apps remain unavailable in some areas, something which will hopefully be addressed in the next major update.   Via: Neowin.net ...

Patch Tuesday, the second Tuesday of the month, and the time when Microsoft pushes out software updates for their products. On this occasion this includes includes Microsoft’s first ARM computer, the Surface, and the update  is  a “Cumulative Update for performance/compatibility” and another is a firmware update which hopefully addresses the same issue.
