Except for the issue that many new features will not be coming to Windows Phone 7, Xbox Music Pass only adds features to Zune Pass for subscribers, who can look forward to a cross-platform music streaming client, a bigger library, portable playlists and eventually the ability to plug the holes in the streaming selection by uploading your own tracks. Microsoft sent the above circular to their Zune Pass subscribers informing them of the same, and also, as a sweetener, offered them 1,000 Microsoft Points, which should be just about enough to hire a movie or buy a few tracks, which is not bad for doing nothing. Let the Xbox Music party begin! Via Neowin.net. Thanks Amedeo for the tip. ...

That did not take long. There has been a lot of speculation about muted demand for Windows 8, so it must be of some reassurance to Microsoft that pre-orders for the Windows 8 Pro DVD edition at $69.99 has stormed to the top of Amazon’s Best Sellers list and has been sitting there for the last 4 days, despite a much cheaper download option being available. Microsoft has projected that they will sell 400 million copies of Windows 8 over the next year, and is in the process of spending $1.5 billion on advertising the new operating system. The $1.5 billion ad campaign for Windows 8 is now in full swing , with a  custom TV ad showing up in the season premiere of AMC The Walking Dead. The ad shows a person using a Windows 8-based tablet with a Walking Dead-themed interactive experience.  The person was also instant messaging a friend while watching the episode.  The ad appears to suggest a gaming element, with one actor turning into a zombie, with the IM message saying  they could not wait to “eat you.” AMC has a feature called StorySync on the official Walking Dead website that allows people to participate in trivia questions, polls and more while they are watching live episodes via a web browser, and this may be a suggestion that a similar app will be coming to Windows 8 tablets. The Windows 8 ad campaign launched on the 13th and should reach a crescendo on ...

AMD has announced its new Z-60 “Hondo” APU which combines a x86 dual-core chip with a Radeon HD 6250 GPU in a low-powered package designed for Windows 8 tablets. AMD claims the chip will allow tablets to pay Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at 1024×768 resolution and 30 fps, and be cheaper than equivalent Intel (presumably ATOM) chips. There is a price however, with the chipset drawing 4.5W vs  1.7W from the Intel Atom Z2760 “Clover Trail” chipset, which translates into 6 vs 8 hours battery life and 2 vs 3 weeks of standby time from a 30 Wh battery. The higher power chip also needs more cooling, resulting in a 10mm thick tablets vs 8.5mm for the Clovertrail processor. The Z-60 offers support for full HD 1080p resolution, HDMI output for external displays, and Microsoft Direct X 11 support. The first tablets based on the AMD Z-60 APU ...
