Right on schedule, the first of the $1.5 Billion campaign ads to market Windows 8 has launched. The ad focuses on touch and family friendliness, and ends with the tag line “Windows reimagined” and the Windows 8 launch date 26th October 2012. The Crispin Porter + Bogusky agency effort seems a bit light for a first effort – hopefully we will see something more exciting in later ads. Via The Verge.com ...

We have just seen the Acer Iconia W510 offering great value at 499  Euro ($648 or £403) for a x86 tablet with dock. Now we see the opposite side of the spectrum, with Amazon UK offering pre-orders for the Samsung ATIV TAB 10.1 inch tablet for £549.99 (682 Euro, $884). The ARM tablet has a 1.5 ghz dual-core processor and 2 GB RAM and of course runs Windows RT.  The package does not appear to include anything extra such as a dock or keyboard, making the price appear to be pretty poor value. Given that we are having x86 tablets selling for cheaper than ARM tablets, do our readers think those tablets have any future? Let us know below. Thanks Erno for the tip. ...

A European Microsoft division had announced that Microsoft will be releasing Office of iOS and Android in 2013. This was quickly shot down by Microsoft however, with  Microsoft’s Frank X. Shaw, head of corporate communications, tweeted on Wednesday that the "information shared by our Czech subsidiary is not accurate," adding that "we do not have anything further to share at this time." A presentation however marked confidential on the new Office makes it clear that Microsoft will be offering Office as a Service, and that their per user and per household licensing will include mobile devices, including specifically iOS and Android. Clients for these devices have been rumoured for a long time, and I think given Microsoft’s role as across-platform productivity software publisher, and with more than 1 billion connected devices in 2011, many not running windows, remains inevitable. ...

Devices running the OS will be formally launched on the 26th October. The task of the marketers is not small – interest in PCs have ...
